All 56 teams get one more chance to pile up a win. Unlike yesterday there is no tomorrow for up to a quarter of the field as we will see a dozen or more teams end their season.
There will be a tomorrow for Haverford. The Fords scored twice in the ninth and with Ben Furlong's two-out walkoff single, ended the top seeded Misericordia Cougars' season with a 0-2 showing in the Moosic Regional. Wheaton (Mass.), another top seed facing elimination will play another day with a 6-5 win over Suffolk. The Lyons opened a 5-0 lead but saw their margin disappear along with the baseball on Suffolk home runs by Seth Coiley and Jake Frasca. Wheaton retook the lead for good in the ninth when Mike Beneduce doubled down the left field line and scored on a RBI single to center by Joey Santigate.
Widener was also a survivor on Thursday but did not need the drama of a comeback win. The Pride scored nine runs while shutting out Ohio Wesleyan to send the Bishops home. Joseph Santone earned the complete game shutout for Widener. The lefty recorded a season high eight strikeouts. He allowed no runs and four hits with two walks for the complete game victory.
Five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning helped catapult Pacific Lutheran to a 8-6 win over California Lutheran in the NCAA Division III West Region at Avista Stadium. Cole Johnson started for the Lutes on the mound, but gave up five runs to Cal Lu in two innings of work. All- Northwest Conference First Team relief pitcher Garrett Brown came in and shut down the Kingsmen offense only allowing three hits and one run over seven innings of work.
Keystone moved into the winners bracket final with Tufts as Jesse Arnold tossed a complete game four-hitter to carry the Giants to a 7-1 victory over Salem State. Tufts had a better day on the mound. Tim Superko and Ian Kinney combined on a 2-0 three hit shutout sending Oswego State into the elimination round. Last year it was another Mid-Atlantic team that advanced to the D-III World Series (Ramapo) and Keystone will be looking to duplicate that feat.

Seth Lamando threw eight and third innings of four-hit shutout ball and struck out a career-high 14 batters as nationally top-ranked Cortland defeated Frostburg State, 6-0. The game was close until the sixth inning. The Red Dragons put five runs on the board that with the pitching of Lamando, put the game out of reach for the Bob Cats whose quest for a repeat appearance was denied. The Red Dragons will meet Ramapo in a matchup of 2015 World Series participants. The Roadrunners moved to 2-0 in Auburn, N.Y. with a 9-2 win over Susquehanna.
North Central (Ill.) used a three-run first inning home run from Chris Hill and 8 2/3 strong innings from Russell Hoh for a 4-2 win over Kalamazoo to stay alive in the 2016 NCAA Division III Midwest Regional Championship. The Cardinals will take on St. John's (Minn.) while the Kalamazoo Hornets finish their season with two regional losses. St. John's (Minn.) was a victim of UW-La Crosse with the Eagles winning 10-0 in a winners bracket game. The Eagles pounce on the Johnnies pitching from the first inning building and adding to the score all game long. Taylor Kphlwey continued to swing a hot bat. Kohlwey, who leads the nation in batting average (now at .494), extended his hitting streak to 47 games, the second-longest in NCAA Division III history. The 47-game hitting streak is sixth in all divisions.
Regis Sauer threw his third complete game of the season and improved to 9-0 as La Roche hung on to defeat TCNJ 4-3 and advance in the winners bracket of the NCAA Mideast Regional. The Lions entered the ninth inning, training by three runs, but managed only two before their comeback bid fell short. Senior shortstop Colin Williamson registered a hit in the second inning to break the school's career hits record. The final game in the Washington Regional was just as close. With two outs and a runner on first in the top of the ninth inning, Jake Fling doubled into the left-field corner, however, Randolph-Macon threw out the pinch runner at home to preserve a 2-1 win.
With an offensive explosion that consisted of an eight run fourth inning UMass-Boston improved to 2-0 as they defeated Penn State Berks by the final of 10-5. The big inning was fueled by miscue by the Nittany Lions (four walks, hbp, two errors) as the Beacons had four hits, three singles and a double. UMass-Boston will face St. John Fisher, a 9-0 winner over Kean.
St. Joseph's (L.I.) earned its first NCAA Regional victory in program history after defeating Johns Hopkins, 3-0, in the Washington Regional. Junior Ryan Aloise was dominant on the mound for the Golden Eagles, tossing three strikeouts in a complete game shutout—his first of the season. Mitchell's 3-2 victory over perennial powerhouse Eastern Connecticut State was their second victory in an NCAA regional. Like their previous win, it was Axel De Jesus who was on the mound and the opponent was the same Warriors that lost today. Sophomore second baseman Kyle Hartenstein as the offensive star, going 3-for-3 and driving in the go-ahead runs with a two-run single in the fourth inning, a hit that also went down as the 100th of his career.
Rose-Hulman has opened the NCAA Division III Baseball Tournament with two consecutive wins for the first time in school history after defeating Washington (Mo.) 6-5, but it gets more difficult tomorrow. The Engineers will face a UW-Whitewater team that is averaging over ten runs a game in the regional. In the win over the Bears, senior Karson Nixon pitched 8.2 innings and scattered seven hits with five strikeouts. Washington (Mo.) rallied with three runs in the ninth inning, before junior Cody Sunderhaus recorded the final out with two runners on base to secure the victory.

Huntingdon scored a run in the eighth inning to break a 1-1 tie with Thomas More but could not hold off a chanrging Saints offense as two ninth inning runs were an answer to Thomas More's prayers. The Saints advanced with the 4-2 win. Emory knocked Marietta out of the NCAA Division III playoffs with an 8-0 win at Bowdoin Field on the campus of Berry College. The second win of the regional came easier for Emory. The Eagles scored one run in the first and fourth innings and then plated five in the fifth inning for a 7-0 lead. An insurance run in the ninth made it 8-0. While they were piling up runs, Hans Hansen kept the Pioneers off the scoreboard, scattering seven hits and striking our five in a complete game win. Birmingham-Southern scored a couple early runs but the pitching stiffened as Shenandoah received a second straight strong pitching performance, With a pair of three run innings, the Hornets downed Birmingham-Southern 6-2. Senior Darrell Thompson tossed the first 7 2/3 innings, retiring 14 straight batters at one point, before turning it over to classmate Ryan Mossman for the final four outs.
Runs were built by both Union and Castleton as all four runs scored were scored on sacrifice flies or a free base. Castleton piled up the single run innings for a 3-1 victory that neither team could put together an offensive inning as all ten hits by the two teams were singles.
St. Scholastica was an 8-1 winner over Beloit in their first ever meeting, ending a six game regional losing streak. Junior right-hander Martin Alcoverde scattered five hits and did not allow an earned run in the complete game victory. Alcoverde recorded four strikeouts and walked just two. Only two Buccaneer runners touched third base in the game and only four made it two second.
The Wartburg's fortunes changed on Thursday as they defeated Westminster (Mo.) in shutout fashion 8-0. This marked the fifth shutout for the Knights in their NCAA Tournament appearances and was the second time they blanked Westminster as the first occurred in 2000, where the Orange and Black also won 8-0. With a new single game school record with six doubles, Wartburg has seven doubles as part of their 20 hits in this years regional action.
