Friday: Two games, two rainouts

Cortland got one run in the seventh and made it stand up behind Seth Lamando's complete-game shutout.

Mother Nature made herself known in the bottom of the third inning with a dump of rain. And Seth Lamando, well, you should already know who he is, and the D3baseball.com Pitcher of the Year made his presence felt in the first game on Friday with 10 strikeouts, throwing a complete game shutout in a 1-0 win vs. Emory.

Only two games were played on Friday. In the second one, Trinity (Texas) took a 3-0 lead before the rains came after the fourth inning, then put up a crooked number in the sixth and the eighth en route to an 8-0 win vs. UW-La Crosse. Starting pitchers Caleb Boushley and Ryan Gray each came back out after the five-hour rain delay and Boushley got roughed up for three more runs.

Taylor Kohlwey went 3-for-5 in the second game to extend his hitting streak to 50 consecutive games.

Because of the rain delay in the second game, both St. John Fisher-Keystone and La Roche/UW-Whitewater will be pushed until Saturday. And Trinity and Cortland will not play until Sunday. The two elimination games will be the third and fourth games scheduled on Saturday, if weather permits.

Rain is predicted throughout the tournament. Oh what fun.
