- No. 1 Washington University is coming into Cedar Rapids with a target on their back. as the number one team in the nation and as the top seed in this years D-III World Series. In the eleven years D3baseball.com has been ranking teams all season, the number one team has won the World Series in four of those years. The last number one team entering the World Series who left as the national champion was Cortland in 2015.
- Washington is making their first ever appearance in the D-III World Series. Ever since the NCAA has given conferences automatic bids to the NCAA Playoff, there has been at least one team in he field of eight that was making their first appearance. For the Bear's head coach, Pat Bloom, he has made the trip before with his last trip in 2013 with UW-Stevens Point.
- Washington was second in the nation in ERA (2.22) and edge out by Webster (2.19). They say pitching is the key to winning and 2021 is no different as six of the eight teams in the D-III World Series are among the top 10 teams in ERA.
