Adrian returns to NCAA Playoffs with MIAA crown

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Adrian College baseball team is back in the NCAA Tournament after earning the MIAA Automatic Bid. After losing to Alma College in the opening round, the Bulldogs swept its pair of elimination games on Thursday before sweeping Alma in the championship on Friday. Once again, the Bulldogs are MIAA Tournament Champions.

GAME ONE

  • The Bulldogs put a pair of runs on the board in the bottom of the first to lead 2-0. AJ Miranda doubled in a run followed by a sacrifice fly from Ryan Davis.
  • Alma answered with three in the second inning before Adrian responded with six in the third. Linken Hayward doubled in a run followed by an RBI single from Easton Rogers, an RBI single from Travis Liford, and an RBI single from Jakob Charles. With the bases loaded, Adrian drew a walk and a hit by pitch to lead 8-3.
  • Alma scored in the fourth inning before Adrian answered back with four more runs in the fourth and a run in the sixth to lead 13-4.
  • Alma made it 13-6 before Adrian kept adding on to win 20-6.
  • Don Goodes earned the win throwing five innings allowing four runs on three hits with nine strikeouts. Griffin Firestine earned the save with four innings in relief.

GAME TWO

  • Alma scored first in the third inning to lead 1-0.
  • Rogers doubled in a run to tie the game 1-1 in the fourth.
  • Edward Wagner gave Adrian the lead with a 2-RBI double followed by a sacrifice fly in the fifth.
  • Alma scored in the bottom of the fifth to make it 4-2.
  • Jack Boike singled in a pair of runs to lead 6-2 which was backed by an RBI double from Goodes in the ninth.
  • Ryan Davis got the start on the mound where he threw 5.2 innings allowing two runs on eight hits with four strikeouts. Michael Swanson threw 3.1 innings in relief to record the save.
