CLINTON, MS - After defeating Mary Hardin-Baylor 19-4 on Friday night, the Mississippi College baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Frierson Field.

The Choctaws could not break through in the first game against Cru starting pitcher Chance Ryan as they fell, 5-2.  Ryan held MC to just three hits over 7.0 strong innings of work.

The Cru opened the scoring in the first inning against Choctaw starter Scott Trousdale with an RBI single from Braden Embry and an RBI double from Josh Fredrick.  Trousdale allowed 11 hits and five earned runs while striking out four over 5.2 innings.

The Choctaws knotted the game in the second inning after Brett Hightower scored on an error by UMHB and Mike Kerdock scored on a fielder's choice.

Ryan set down 10 Choctaws in-a-row before an Andy Smith double in the sixth inning.

The Cru scored two runs in the fourth inning on a single by Zach Crosswhite and a sacrifice fly Zach Young.  Embry homered in the fifth inning to give UMHB the final advantage.

Senior Bubba Davis pitched the final 1.1 innings for MC, allowing just two hits and no runs.

The bats came alive in the second game as UMHB scored two runs in the first inning for the second straight game.  The Cru took advantage of a walk, three hit-by-pitches, and an error to score the opening inning runs.

After UMHB added a run in the second inning, the Choctaws answered with a run in the third inning on an RBI double by Stuart Magee that scored Taylor Cloyd.  Magee finished the game 3-6 with three RBI and two runs scored.

The two teams traded runs in the fourth inning before Magee stepped up again with a two-run home run, his first of the season, to tie the game, 4-4.

After a rocky first inning, senior Craig Mackay settled down to allow three earned runs over 6.0 innings pitched.

The Cru exploded for seven runs in the seventh inning on six hits.  Senior Daniel Cowart (0-4) took the loss for MC after entering the game in the seventh inning.

The Choctaws bounced back in the seventh inning with a three-run home run from senior Clay Crosswhite that cut the lead to 11-7.

After a scoreless eighth for UMHB, the Choctaws scored three more runs in the eighth, aided by two Cru errors.  Brett Hightower raced home as the potential game-tying run, but was cut down by right fielder Ricky Brenek.

Sam VanHoozer shut the door in the ninth inning, getting the Choctaws in order to clinch the victory.

The Choctaws dropped to 3-5 on the season while the Cru improved to 3-6.

MC will be back in action on Tuesday night as they host Millsaps at 6:00 p.m. at Frierson Field.
