CONWAY, Ark. (March 4) -- Hendrix College prevailed for two wins in its home opener against cross-town foe Central Baptist College on Friday. The two teams battled through scattered showers all afternoon at Warrior Field.

Senior lefty Jordan Suydam pitched 5.0 quality innings to lead Hendrix to a 4-2 win in the opener, his first victory of the season. Suydam struck out five batters and allowed just three hits. Senior righty Jeff Forgerson slammed the door shut in the ninth with a pair of fly outs and a strike out looking for his first save of the year.

The Mustangs plated their only runs of the opener on a two-run double to the left field fence in the first inning.

Hendrix scored twice in the first inning. Junior Clark Sims singled and took second on an error in center field. First year Collin Radack drove in Sims with a base knock to center and Radack eventually crossed home on a single to right field by first year Jacob Perschke.

Sims scored the Warriors' third run in the third inning when he reached second on an error in right field, advanced to third on a balk and sprinted home on a grounder to first base.

Perschke touched home for Hendrix's final run in the fourth. He reached on a single through the right side and advanced to third on a base knock to right field by junior Andrew Thames. Junior Nathan Harr then laid down the squeeze bunt to score Perschke.

The Warriors exploded for 13 runs on nine hits in the night cap. First year Thomas Weber went 4-for-4, including a homer over the scoreboard and a double to left center, with two runs scored and four RBI. Junior Kyle Raskin was 2-for-3 with a runs scored and an RBI, while first year Collin Radack scored twice and drove in a pair.

Hendrix sophomore left-hander Tyler Keever started on the hill and scattered three hits and three strikeouts over 3.0 frames. Junior right-hander Geoff Lomax fanned one batter in the fourth to earn his first 'W' of the season.

Hendrix scored four runs on three hits and two errors in the first inning, and then rallied for eight runs on just three hits and two errors. Weber clobbered his first collegiate roundtripper over the left center field scoreboard with two outs in the fifth.

Hendrix will host Central Baptist again on March 15 for a single nine-inning game at 5 p.m. CT. The Warriors will now prepare to host UT-Tyler on Monday (6 p.m.) and Tuesday (5 p.m.) for a two-game series.
