MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – CUA continued its trend of alternating wins and losses during spring break with a 10-8 victory over Penn State-Harrisburg (0-7) on Wednesday.  Matt Grieb, Brendan Breslin and Marc Hanna each had three hits for the Cardinals (6-3), while Breslin also drove in three runs.

PSU jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first but CUA got one of the runs back in its half of the inning when Tim Mierzwa came home on a Nittany Lion error.

A single run in the top of the second put Penn State up 3-1, but the Cardinals answered with three runs in the bottom half to go on top 4-3.  With one out Troy Langway and Kory Smigocki singled, which brought up Grieb.  Grieb drove in a run with a single and Mierzwa followed with another RBI single.

Breslin was up next and he laced CUA's third run scoring single to give CUA its first lead of the afternoon.

CUA increased its lead with three more runs in the fourth highlighted by an RBI triple by Hanna.  Mark Kalokitis also drove in a run and Mierzwa scampered across following a wild pitch.

The Nittany Lions came right back and tied things at seven with four runs in the top of the fifth.  Josh Kefauver delivered the big blow with a two-run double for Penn State.

A Breslin single in the CUA half of the fifth plated Mierzwa and gave the lead back to the Cardinals and two more runs in the seventh made it a 10-7 game.  Breslin delivered another RBI hit in the seventh as did Hanna.

Penn State tried to cut into the Cardinals lead in the eighth but got just a single run and Jack Mahoney shut the Nittany Lions down in the ninth to earn his third save of the year.

Rob Renzi claimed the win for CUA after he threw 2.1 innings, did not allow any runs and struck out one.  Mahoney worked two innings, surrendered just one hit and struck out one to record the save.

For Penn State Kefauver suffered the loss with Barry Wiestling also seeing time on the mound.

On Thursday CUA will take on Eastern in its second-to-last game during the Cardinals spring break trip.  First pitch is slated for 9 a.m.
