GREENSBORO, N.C. – Gregg Laswell's complete-game, four-hit shutout capped Washington and Lee University's sweep of an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) doubleheader at Guilford College Saturday. Bolstered by Laswell's (2-1) second win of the season, Washington and Lee won the nightcap, 5-0, after an 8-3 comeback win in the opener.

Laswell (2-1) retired the side in order in six of his nine frames and fanned seven. He did not walk a batter. Alex Maragos' two-out, RBI double in the first was all the offense he would need, but the Generals (8-8, 6-2 ODAC) tacked on single runs in the fourth and fifth innings before icing the sweep with two runs in the seventh.

Mike Savas led Washington and Lee's 15-hit parade with three hits, including an RBI single. Six Generals had at least two hits, including Will Salley and Joe Scalzo, who both went 2-4 with an RBI.

Guilford's Ben Esser had two of the Quakers' (9-14, 3-4 ODAC) four hits. Rookie Borja Jones-Berasaluce (1-3) took the loss on the mound. He fanned six and did not walk a batter in six innings, but was touched for three runs and 11 hits.

Washington and Lee used a seven-run eighth inning to overcome a 2-1 deficit and pull out an 8-3 opening-game win. The Generals used three walks, two hit batsmen and a Quakers' error to bat around in the inning. Jonathan Stutts delivered the frame's big blow, a two-out, three-run double that opened an 8-2 Washington and Lee advantage. He finished with two of the Generals' five hits. Ian Shaw improved to 2-1 with 1.2 innings of scoreless relief.

Guilford's Zack Montalbano went three-for-three before leaving the game for a pinch-runner in the Quakers' two-run sixth inning. Jay Cox and Kyle Wooden both added two hits. Sammy Stuart (2-4) took the loss in relief of starter Zach Daw, who worked around four walks, three hits and three hit batsmen to pitch into the eighth inning. The loss ended Guilford's season-long five-game winning streak.
