Providence, RI-Freshman second baseman Devan Jones (Roslindale, MA) went 4-for-6 with two runs scored and an RBI, while senior shortstop Mark Addesa (Revere, MA) went 2-for-5 with three RBI, a stolen base and a run scored, as Suffolk swept a doubleheader (4-2, 5-3) from Rhode Island College in the host's home openers played at a frigid Anchorman Field on Saturday afternoon.

Senior pitcher Charles Kilgore (Milford, NH) was a key to the Rams' (7-4) win in game two, earning the save in 2.2 innings of scoreless relief.

RIC (5-6) jumped out to an early lead in the first game as junior shortstop Kyle Allaire (Uxbridge, MA) beat out an infield hit and classmate first baseman Dan Hopkins (Cranston, RI) muscled a bloop hit into right field to put runners on first and second with one away in the bottom of the first. Senior pitcher Gary Levesque (East Providence, RI) smashed a double to left center field and brought in both runners to give the hosts a 2-0 lead.

After a pair of scoreless frames, Suffolk got on the board in the fourth as Jones singled and stole second to get into scoring position. Classmate third baseman Jake Cintolo (Wrentham, MA) pulled the Rams within a run with an RBI single to right field.

Suffolk capitalized on two Anchormen miscues, which led to a three-run fifth. Junior catcher Dan Belanger (Raynham, MA) reached on an error, was sacrificed to second and came across on an Addesa RBI single. With the bases loaded and two down, Cintolo put the visitors on top with a two-run single to right field.

Senior pitcher Alex Torres (Framingham, MA) breezed through the final five innings to earn the complete game win (2-1). After surrendering the two runs in the first and putting runners on second and third with no one out in the second, the righty retired the final 18 batters he faced. He allowed just five hits and struck out 10. Levesque took the loss (2-1), allowing only one earned run in 5.1 innings pitched before giving way to junior Eric Blanchard (Warwick, RI). Blanchard, who pitched well, came in with two aboard in the sixth and got RIC out of a jam.

Addesa put Suffolk up, 1-0, right off the bat in game two. He walked, stole second, was moved over to third on a ground out and came home on sophomore first baseman Mike Cunningham's (Syosset, NY) RBI fielder's choice grounder.

In the second frame, the Rams loaded the bases with one away and Addesa's sacrifice fly brought in a run. An Anchormen throwing error on sophomore designated hitter Chris Stanley's (Orange County, CA) grounder plated another and Jones singled through the left side to make it 4-0 Suffolk.

Junior left fielder Brent Hopkins' (Cranston, RI) one-out homer to left field put the hosts on the board in the bottom of the second.

Suffolk continued to add to its lead in the fourth as senior catcher Mark Annese (Winchester, MA) led off with a triple to right and came home on Addesa's single up the middle.

RIC put across two runs in the fifth as sophomore center fielder Kevin Carey Wakefield, RI) walked and junior catcher J.P. Stone (Narragansett, RI) singled. Dan Hopkins and Levesque came through with RBI singles to pull the Anchormen within a pair, 5-3. Rhode Island College threatened to add more with the bases full and one out, but Kilgore came in and slammed the door.

The Anchormen also threatened in the sixth, putting two on, but could not push across the tying runs.

Junior starter Tim Belanger (Raynham, MA) went 4.1 innings, surrendering three runs on six hits, while striking out three, to earn his first win (1-0). RIC sophomore starter David Hoey (Lincoln, RI) took the loss (1-2) , giving up three earned runs on eight hits.

Levesque, who played DH in the nightcap, knocked in three on the day.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will play a doubleheader tomorrow afternoon at Bridgewater State (1 p.m.).
