#5 Kean Pushes Past FDU-Florham, 10-4

Union, N.J. (3/29/11) – The Kean University baseball team scored ten runs on 13 hits as they improved to 15-3 overall this season by defeating FDU-Florham, 10-4, Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action.

Freshman Nick Zucchero earned the win in relief for the #5 Cougars.  Zucchero (1-0) tossed two and a third innings allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out two.  Starter Bobby Smith (0-1) suffered the loss for the Devils (7-6).  Bo. Smith allowed five runs and seven hits in three innings of work.

The Devils took advantage of two Cougar miscues in the first inning all with two outs to plate a quick two runs in their first at-bat.  Kean chipped away with a single run in the second as sophomore Nick Ramagli lofted a sacrifice fly, scoring senior Ken Gregory who lead off the inning with a single. 

The Cougars then took the lead for good in the frame as they plated four runs.  Junior Dylan Laguna started the scoring as he drove home junior Vinny Galya, who doubled to reach base.  After swiping third, Laguna scored on an RBI groundout from junior Lee Cavico.  Senior Nick Nolan provided an RBI single two batters later after Gregory reached on a double.  Catcher Eddie Jennings rounded out the scoring with an RBI single up the middle for a 5-2 Cougar advantage. 

Both teams would trade single runs in the middle innings before Kean added to their lead with two in the sixth and two in the seventh. 

Offensively Gregory was 3-for-4 with an RBI, homerun and three runs scored while Nolan and Jennings were each 2-for-3.  Senior Chris Carrano was 1-for-3 with a run scored and RBI while Galya finished with a 2-for-4 day.   For the Devils, shortstop Steve Seminerio, outfielder Matt Oliveto and infielder John Pieper were all 2-for-4.

Kean returns to action on Wednesday when they host #12/25 Alvernia University at 3:30 p.m.
