Diplomats Fall to Mustangs

ABERDEEN, Md. – Franklin & Marshall dropped an 8-2 game to Stevenson in non-conference baseball action Tuesday afternoon. The Diplomats fell to 8-8 while the Mustangs improved to 6-16 on the season.

Kevin Shields was 2-for-4 and scored a run to lead F&M from the plate. Alex Vescera and J.T. Triantos both knocked in a run and Aaron Gillette crossed home once for the Diplomats.

Stevenson broke open a scoreless game with a run in third inning. The Mustangs added three more in the bottom of fourth to take a 4-1 edge. F&M answered with a run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Triantos. Triantos' fly plated Shields who reached on a single earlier in the inning.  Shields stole second and reached third on an error by the shortstop.

The Mustangs responded with back-to-back two-run innings to take an 8-1 lead going into the seventh. F&M put one run on the board in the seventh on a RBI groundout by Vescera that scored Gillette.

Bobby Hayes took the loss for F&M. Hayes (1-2) worked 3.2 innings, allowing six hits and four runs. Randy Bond picked up the win in two innings of work.

F&M returns to the diamond on Thursday with a 3:30 p.m. game at Messiah.
