WASHINGTON – CUA fell to St. Mary's 6-4 in a five-inning, rain-shortened contest on Saturday afternoon.  The Seahawks actually scored three more runs in the top half of the sixth but the game reverts back to the last full inning completed.  With the loss CUA falls to 12-8, while St. Mary's ups its record to 17-12.  The teams were scheduled to play a doubleheader, but game two was cancelled due to the rain.

The Cardinals took an early 4-0 lead with four runs in the bottom of the first inning.  Matt Grieb led off with a single and Dan Sullivan followed with a double to right field.  LJ Travaglia was next and he plated Grieb with a single.

Dave Grear then came up and he singled in Sullivan to make it 2-0.  Two batters later Marc Hanna delivered a two-run double and CUA was in front 4-0.

The Seahawks tied things at four with a big third inning, including a long three-run home run to right field off the bat of Nick Urso.

St. Mary's then took its first lead of the afternoon with a single run in the fourth.  Corey Napier singled home Matt Baden to put the Seahawks in front 5-4.

The Seahawks added another single run in the fifth, courtesy of Stefano Muscatelli's single to right field.

After St. Mary's scored three more times in the top half of the sixth CUA was at bat when the skies opened up and was accompanied by thunder and lightning.  The umpires sent both teams to their dugouts and soon after the game was called.

There was a 40-minute weather delay earlier in the day as well with rain wreaking havoc on Talbot Field all afternoon.

Andrew Carroll suffered the loss for CUA after he went 2.2 innings, and allowed four earned runs on a pair of hits.

Mike Victory was the victorious pitcher as he went five innings, struck out one and allowed four runs for St. Mary's.

On Sunday CUA will play a single game vs. Salisbury at Talbot Field with first pitch slated for 1 p.m.
