Norwich Falls At Southern Vermont, 11-2

More news about: Norwich

BENNINGTON, Vt. – Pat Warrington went 4-for-5 with two RBI and four runs scored and Andrew Northup added a bases-clearing two-run triple in the third inning as Southern Vermont rolled past Norwich University, 11-2, in non-conference college baseball action Thursday afternoon at Epstein Field.

The Mountaineers (6-10) used a three-run third inning and a four-run fourth to open up a 1-0 game and take a comfortable 8-0 lead.

The Cadets (0-9) had a golden opportunity to get back in the game in the sixth inning when a single by senior OF Travis Dyke and two walks loaded the bases with nobody out. Southern Vermont's Dave Northup then induced freshman 1B Jordan Badstuebner into a grounder back to the mound, however, setting up the 1-2-3 double play to force Dyke out at home. Northup subsequently struck out freshman DH John Erdeski with runners on second and third to end the Norwich threat.

Northup (1-2) worked three innings of scoreless relief to pick up the win for SVC, giving up three hits while tallying four strikeouts and walking three.

Junior OF David Maxfield and freshman INF Jordan Patton both went 2-for-4 to pace Norwich offensively. Freshman INF Devin Cilley belted an RBI double to deep left-center in the seventh inning to drive in junior C Mitch Blair.

Sophomore RHP Brad Hudson (0-2) took the loss for NU, giving up eight runs over four innings while striking out three and walking two.

The path ahead does not get any easier for the Cadets as they open up Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play this weekend. The team will visit Emerson College for a doubleheader on Saturday before taking on Albertus Magnus Sunday for another twinbill, also on the road.
