BEREA, Ohio — Junior Brian Gasser (New Philadelphia/Indian Valley) threw the 20th no-hitter in the program history as No. 3 Marietta College swept Baldwin-Wallace College in an Ohio Athletic Conference baseball doubleheader Thursday (April 7) at Heritage Field. The Pioneers won game one 7-1 and then took game two 5-1. [Game 1 Box Score] [Game 2 Box Score]

Gasser scattered one run, two walks and a hit batter while striking out seven during his historical performance. The leader of the nation's top pitching staff improved to 6-0 with a 1.18 ERA. Marietta's last no-hitter came from Mike DeMark against Thiel on March 21, 2004. A day earlier, Mike Mooney accomplished the same feat against Ohio Wesleyan. Despite having their OAC opener postponed five straight days, the Pioneers (17-2, 2-0 OAC) showed little sign up rust against the Yellow Jackets (11-8, 1-3 OAC).

The Etta Express, who pounded out 14 hits, sent nine men to the plate and produced five hits, including three for extra bases, to take a 4-0 lead in the first inning. Sophomore Jordan Grilliot (Brookville/Northmont) led off with a single, and junior Kirby Becker (South Euclid/St. Ignatius) followed with a double, before senior John Snyder (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) drove in Grilliot with a groundout. Junior Tim Saunders (Alliance/Alliance) then hit a RBI triple, and senior Casey Levens (Dayton/Centerville) plated him with another groundout. Senior Britt Meador (Columbus/Worthington Kilbourne) singled and scored on a double by sophomore Aaron Hopper (Wheelersburg/Wheelersburg).

Back-to-back RBI singles from Becker and Snyder helped Marietta stretch its advantage to 6-0 in the fourth. Grilliot then plated Toth with a single to make it 7-0 in the fifth.

Baldwin-Wallace pieced together a hit-by-pitch, walk, stolen base and RBI ground out to score its lone run in the bottom of the fifth.

Six different Pioneers had multiple hits, including Saunders who went 3-for-4 and finished a home run shy of the cycle. Snyder also had two hits and drove in two runs.

Marietta took the early lead when it struck for three runs in the third inning of game two. Becker singled and scored on an error, while Hopper delivered a two-run single to plate Levens and Saunders.

The Yellow Jackets scored a run on a two-out single in the fifth from Anthony Longhitano, who finished with two of his team's four hits. The Pioneers, however, got the run back when Saunders drove in Grilliot with a fielder's choice in the top of the seventh and added an insurance run on Baldwin-Wallace's fifth error in the top of the ninth.

Junior Austin Blaski (Pandora/Gilboa) earned the win to improve to 4-1 after he went six strong innings, giving up one run on four hits while walking two and striking out seven. Senior Mark Williams (Fayetteville/Perry) struck out all three of the hitters that he faced in the seventh, before handing the ball to junior closer Kyle Lindquist (Columbus/Worthington Kilbourne). Lindquist earned his seventh save by getting the final six Yellow Jackets and completed a string of 13 straight B-W players to be retired to end the game.

Sophomore Braden Park (Oxford/Talawanda) led Marietta's 11-hit attack with a 3-for-4 performance. Hopper and Snyder added two hits in the win.

Marietta continues OAC play at 1 p.m. Friday (April 8) when it visits Alliance, Ohio, for a doubleheader with the University of Mount Union.
