YORK, Pa. – With its second-highest hit total for the season, the Frostburg State baseball team out-powered York (Pa.) to a 12-4 win, Wednesday afternoon, to move into a tie for first place in the Capital Athletic Conference.

Coming off a three-game sweep of Wesley, the Bobcats (17-8, 10-5) rolled to an easy victory over York (Pa.) (9-16, 7-10) behind a multi-hit day for six starters and a game-leading four RBIs from junior Adam Summerfelt (Gambrills, Md./Archbishop Spalding).

With two runners on in the top of the third, senior Corey Carr (McHenry, Md./Northern Garrett) got his first hit of the day with an RBI double to right center to score junior John Barrett (Alexandria, Va./Thomas Edison (Hagerstown)). Summerfelt followed with a single to left field to score Carr and junior Doug Anuszewski (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) for his first two RBIs of the game. The Bobcats led 3-0 after two and a half innings.

The Spartans answered with a run in the bottom of the third on their first hit of the game, a two-out RBI double to right field.

With six hits in the top of the fourth, the Bobcats scored four more runs to put the game out of reach at 7-1. Junior Shane Boyd (Gaithersburg, Md./Damascus) led off the inning with a single up the middle and came around to score on a single to right from junior Garrett Price (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty (Emory & Henry)). After senior Matt Greene (Westminster, Md./South Carroll) singled through the left side and a Spartan wild pitch, Barrett came to bat with two runners in scoring position. Barrett singled through the left side to bring around Price and Greene and extend the lead to 6-1. Anuszewski singled up the middle and Summerfelt drove home his third run on the game with a single to right center that allowed Barrett to come home from second.

To add a little insurance, Greene led off the sixth with a home run to left field. Later in the inning, Summerfelt brought home his fourth run of the game with a sac fly to left field that scored Anuszewski and extend the lead to 9-1.

York fought back in the home half of the sixth with three runs, but could not overcome the hard-hitting Bobcats. The Spartans scored their runs on three hits and a Bobcat error, but relief pitcher sophomore David O'Brien (Thurmont, Md./Mercerberg Academy) was able to pitch himself out a jam with two ground outs to end the inning.

Leading 9-4 in the top of the eighth, Anuszewski homered to left field to put the Bobcats up 10-4. Frostburg State plated its final two runs of the game in the top of the ninth. With Wilson and Price on second and third, Barrett reached on an error on a hard-hit ball to the pitcher that allowed the two runners to score.

Senior Britton Quayle (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) came home with the win on the mound, pushing his record to 4-2 on the season. Quayle allowed just one run on three hits while striking out five over five innings. Joey Couch took the loss for the Spartans pitching just 3.1 innings, giving up seven runs on eighth hits and three walks.

Summerfelt finished the afternoon 2-for-4 at the plate with four RBIs while Greene, Barrett and Anuszewski each collected three hits, helping FSU to 17 on the day. Price and Carr joined Summerfelt with two.

Frostburg State continues conference play when it travels to Fredericksburg, Va. to take on Mary Washington on April 7 to kick off its final regular-season conference series with a single nine-inning game starting at 3:30 p.m.
