FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Frostburg State baseball team pushed its winning streak to eight games with a 3-0 victory over Capital Athletic Conference opponent Mary Washington, Thursday afternoon.

With the win, the Bobcats move to 18-8 on the season with an 11-5 CAC slate. The Eagles are now 19-12 and 7-9 in the league.

Senior starting pitcher Greg Ross (Towson, Md./Loch Raven) had another quality start for the Bobcats going six innings giving up just four hits and three walks while fanning six Eagles. Ross improves to 6-1 on the season with the win. Classmate Spenser Madsen (Easton, Md/St. Michaels) picked up his second save of the season pitching the ninth inning giving up just a hit and striking out one.

To push the Bobcats to 14-5 on the season when scoring first, junior Doug Anuszewski (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) got the Bobcats on the board in the top of the second. Anuszewski led off the inning with a single to right field and advanced to second when senior Matt Ridenour (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) was hit by a pitch. Ridenour advanced to second and Anuszewski came around to score on an error by the Eagle first baseman.

The Bobcats held a 1-0 advantage going into the fifth inning. Freshman Tyler Hawthorne (Wilmington, Del./Alexis I. Dupont) led off the frame with a double to right field. Senior Scott Wilson (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) followed with a double to right to score Hawthorne and keep a runner in scoring position. Junior Garrett Price (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty (Emory & Henry)) hit a fly ball to the second baseman deep enough for Wilson to tag up and reach third. Senior Matt Greene (Westminster, Md./South Carroll) singled to right field to bring around Wilson and give the Bobcats a 3-0 lead.

The Eagles started a rally in the bottom of the seventh but couldn't follow through with senior relief pitcher David Lanier (Laurel, Md./Atholton) keeping the Eagles off the board. After back-to-back singles, Beattie Southerland drew a one-out walk to load the bases and threaten the Bobcat lead. Lanier then got Eric Rehbein to ground into a routine 6-4-3 double play to end the inning.

Madsen came on in relief of Lanier in the ninth inning and got Shane Sixsmith to chase the final pitch of game and secure a 3-0 Bobcat victory.

Greene and Anuszewski each went 2-for-4 on the day, Greene with an RBI.

Parker Talbert went the distance for the Eagles while suffering the loss. Over the full nine, Talbert gave up three runs, two earned, on eight hits while striking out eight.

Frostburg State returns home on Saturday to wrap up its regular-season conference play with a doubleheader against the Eagles with the first pitch scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
