NORTON, MA- Wheaton College baseball junior Dan Haugh (Andover, MA/Saint John's Prep) continued to swing a hot bat on Monday, as the third baseman went 3-for-4 with a career-high-tying three doubles and three RBI to power his team to an 11-3 victory over Trinity College as the Lyons closed its three-game homestand at Sidell Stadium.

Receiving votes in the latest D3baseball.com national poll while ranking sixth in the region according to the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA), Wheaton won its fifth straight to improve to 18-6, which includes a 10-0 home mark.  The Bantams dropped their fourth consecutive game to fall to 13-9.

Named New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Player of the Week earlier today, Haugh now boasts an incredible 15 doubles and 41 RBI through just 24 games.  Senior Hadi Raad (Hastings-on-Hudson, NY/Hastings) and junior Hal Landers (Salem, NH/Salem) had two hits apiece. 

Seniors Eric Laliberte (Nashua, NH/Bishop Guertin) and Sean Munley (Ewing, NJ/The Hun School of Princeton) and sophomore Dan Gusovsky (Andover, MA/Andover) each scored twice.  Laliberte walked three times, while Gusovsky and Munley drew walks apiece.  Junior Nolan Corr (Somersworth, NH/Saint Thomas Aquinas) improved to 4-1, giving up no earned runs with three strikeouts and one walk in six innings, while sophomore Corey Laliberte (Fall River, MA/B.M.C. Durfee) earned his first career save.

For Trinity, junior Kevin Mortimer (Spencer, MA/Worcester Academy) went 3-for-4 with two RBI, while classmate Alex LiDonni (Norwood, MA/Salisbury School) and sophomore Joe Papa (Stoneham, MA/Buckingham, Browne & Nichols) had two hits apiece.  Sophomore D.J. Goldberg (Plainville, MA/Worcester Academy) lasted just 2.2 innings, giving up five runs, three earned, on four hits with two strikeouts and six walks.

Wheaton pushed a run across in the first, as Laliberte and Haugh traded spots after each doubled.  In the third, the hosts drew three walks before senior Tad Skelley (Wolfeboro, NH/Holderness School) flied out to score Munley and Raad singled home Gusovsky on a 0-2 count to make the score 3-0.  Following a Bantam pitching change, the Lyons used a fielding error, a walk and two wild pitches to plate two unearned runs.

Trinity got on the board in the fourth with an unearned run.  Ramsey settled in and retired six batters in a row and nine of 10.  In the top of the sixth, Mortimer doubled with one down before Landers robbed sophomore Michael Rueger (Teaneck, NJ/Teaneck) of a hit with an impressive sliding catch in center. 

In the bottom of the sixth, a pair of Wheaton doubles brought its sixth run home, as Haugh dropped a two-out double into short right before Munley ripped a two-bagger down the left field line that scored Haugh.  Munley then came around to score on Gusovsky's triple to right center that made the score 7-1 before sophomore Paul O'Neill (Framingham, MA/Framingham) singled home Wheaton's eighth run.  The Lyons tacked on three insurance runs in the seventh, scoring on a wild pitch before Haugh doubled home a pair.

The Lyons are scheduled to complete their three-game series at NEWMAC foe Springfield College tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 p.m.  Having beaten the Pride twice, Wheaton is seeking its second league series sweep of the spring.
