Glassboro, NJ: The Rowan University baseball team swept a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) doubleheader over Ramapo College, 10-2 and 3-1.

The Profs are 16-6-1 overall and 4-1 in the conference. The Roadrunners have a 15-6 record with a 2-4 NJAC mark. In the first game, right-hander Kyle Norman (sr. Oakhurst, NJ/Ocean Twp.) picked up the win (1-1) in relief. He tossed 0.2 scoreless innings. Righty Ryan Peterson (jr. Belle Mead, NJ/Montgomery) threw the final 3.2 innings for his second save of the season. Right-hander John McNeil (so. Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) took the loss (1-2). He gave up five runs, three earned in 4.1 innings.

Rowan shortstop Marc Magliaro (jr. Monroe Twp., NJ/Monroe Twp.) went three for four with two runs scored and a double. Right fielder Kevin O'Brien (sr. Pennsville, NJ/Pennsville Mem.) compiled two hits (four at bats), two runs scored, one RBI and a home run. Third baseman Brad Woodend (sr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) posted two hits (four at bats) and two runs scored. Designated hitter C.J. Szymczak (so. Maple Shade, NJ/Maple Shade) was one for four with one RBI and one run scored.

Left fielder Scott Weaver (sr. Ledgewood, NJ/Roxbury) drove in two runs, while second baseman Brandon Winkler (jr. Glendora, NJ/Paul VI) had one RBI. Catcher Nick Turano (jr. Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan) tallied one RBI and one run scored. First baseman Matt Hill (jr. Hamilton Square, NJ/Robbinsville) registered one hit (three at bats) and one run scored. Center fielder Matt Citro (sr. Bloomsbury, NJ/Phillipsburg) scored once.

For Ramapo, left fielder Joseph Somma (jr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River E.) collected three hits (four at bats), one run scored and a double. First baseman Dan Moreno (jr. Cranford, NJ/Cranford) totaled two hits (five at bats) and a double. Third basemen Christian Spurr (so. Warren, NJ/Watchung Hills) and catcher Matthew Hancock (so. Old Lyme, CT/Xavier) both had one hit (four at bats) and one RBI. Designated hitter Kevin Knox (jr. Matawan, NJ/Matawan Reg.) scored one run.

In the first inning, Knox was hit by a pitch and went to second on a wild pitch. He advanced to third on a single by Somma. Spurr hit a sacrifice fly to left field that plated Knox. Hancock ripped a double to left center field that scored Somma. Rowan tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the second inning. O'Brien walked and stole second. Szymczak was hit by a pitch and Hill walked to load the bases. Winkler's sacrifice fly to left field brought O'Brien home and Szymczak scored on a wild pitch.

The Profs went up, 5-2 with three runs in the fifth. Magliaro had a leadoff double to right center field. He advanced to third on Woodend's single. Weaver grounded out to the shortstop allowing Magliaro to cross the plate. Woodend scored on an error and Szymczak's single knocked in Turano. In the seventh, O'Brien hit a solo homer over the right center field fence. Rowan added four runs in the eighth. Hill reached base with a single and later scored on a balk. Citro and Magliaro scored on an error with Weaver at bat and Woodend came home on a sacrifice fly by Turano.

In the nightcap, left-hander Curtis Arsi (jr. Washington Twp., NJ/Westwood Reg.) took a perfect game into the eighth inning. He (5-1) allowed one earned run on two hits and struck out six batters in eight innings. Righty John O'Hara (sr. Clayton, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) pitched a scoreless ninth inning for his third save. Right-hander Travis Zilg (so. North Caldwell, NJ/West Essex) was the losing pitcher (3-2). He threw eight innings, surrendering two earned runs on six hits.

Woodend was three for four with one run scored and a double. Turano registered one hit (four at bats), one RBI and a double. Magliaro chipped in with one hit (four at bats) and one run scored. O'Brien crossed the plate once.

For the Roadrunners, second baseman Pat Driscoll (sr. Sparta, NJ/Sparta) went one for three with one RBI. Shortstop Rob Dimperio (sr. Jackson, NJ/Jackson Mem.) and Spurr both had one hit. Catcher Peter Dacenko (sr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River E.) scored once.

Rowan tallied one run in the first and second innings. Woodend singled and later scored on a balk in the first. O'Brien had a leadoff walk in the second inning. He stole second, went to third on a ground and came home on a wild pitch. In the sixth, Magliaro singled to left center field. Turano drove him in with a double to left field. With two outs in the top of the eighth, Dacenko walked to break up the perfect game. Dimperio followed with a single to third base that ended the no-hitter. Driscoll hit a single to right center field that plated Dacenko.

Rowan travels to The College of New Jersey for a NJAC game on Sunday, April 10 at noon. The Roadrunners travel to Baruch College tomorrow for a 10am start.
