TYLER, TX - The Mississippi College baseball team had their five-game winning streak snapped with a 3-1 loss to the University of Texas at Tyler on Saturday afternoon at Irwin Field.  The Patriots followed up with a 1-0 victory over the Choctaws in the second game of the doubleheader.

After scoring 14 runs on 18 hits the previous night, the Choctaw bats were held to just nine hits and one solo home run in the 16 innings on Saturday.

In the first game, Junior Ryan Glover took the tough-luck loss for MC, taking a no-hitter into the sixth inning, before allowing three runs on four hits.

MC opened the scoring with a solo home run by senior Stuart Magee in the third inning to give the Choctaws a 1-0 lead.

Patriot starter Matt Schimpf shut the MC offense down from there, allowing five hits and striking out four over the complete game win.

Jake Beam opened the sixth inning for UT-Tyler with a single up the middle and advanced to second on a groundout Jordon Vierra.

Pinch-hitter Chad Sherman grounded out to third to get MC just one out away from ending the inning.

Shortstop Aaron McCain walked and David Ring doubled down the left field line to drive in the tying and eventual game-winning run. 

After an infield single by Justin Juneau, Nick Clifton singled to right field to drive in the insurance run.

Junior Mike Kerdock was the only Choctaw to record two hits, while the top five hitters in the lineup only went 1-14 with Magee's home run.

In the second game, Choctaw starter Bo Craig and Patriot starter Kory Cleveland were impressive as they each took a shutout into the seventh inning.

The Patriots scored the only run of the game on a sacrifice fly by game one hero David Ring that scored Jake Ashley.

Craig allowed just three hits and one earned run over 6.1 innings, while Cleveland gave up four hits and struck out eight in the complete game shutout.

The Choctaws will face Belhaven on Tuesday night at Smith-Wills Stadium at 6:00 p.m.
