MARIETTA, Ohio — Senior John Snyder (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) delivered a hitting performance for the record books as No. 2 Marietta College posted 17-2 and 10-4 Ohio Athletic Conference wins over visiting Muskingum University Wednesday (April 20) evening at Don Schaly Stadium. The Pioneers improved to 26-3 overall and 11-1 in the league standings, which helped them remain one game ahead of second place No. 7 Heidelberg University. The Fighting Muskies fell to 11-18, 4-8 in the OAC.

Snyder was the story of game one. The center fielder went a perfect 5-for-5 at the plate, finishing with a school-record tying three home runs—a three-run shot in the second, a two-run blast in the third and a grand slam in the fourth—and OAC-record tying 10 RBI. He becomes the ninth Pioneer and first since Brent Curtin against Walsh in 2003 to hit three home runs in a game. Snyder, who also had a RBI double in the first and a single in the sixth, joined three former Marietta players with 10 RBI, including Chris Beatty, who accomplished the feat last year at Ohio Northern.

Sophomore Jordan Grilliot (Brookville/Northmont) and senior Casey Levens (Dayton/Centerville) added three hits, while sophomores Aaron Hopper (Wheelersburg/Wheelersburg) and Alex Toth (Painesville/Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin) both contributed a pair in the Pioneers' 19-hit attack.

T.J. Howsare finished with both of Muskingum's hits in the loss.

Marietta's offense scored in every inning but the fifth. The Pioneers plated three in the first, four in the second, three in the third, six in the fourth and one in the sixth. Both Fighting Muskies runs scored on a throwing error in the third.

Senior starter Mark Williams (Fayetteville/Perry) earned the victory on the mound to improve to 4-1. He scattered two unearned runs on two hits to go along with a walk and six strikeouts over five frames. Sophomores Luke Langdon (Troy/Troy) and Michael Radvansky (Toronto/Toronto) both followed with 1-2-3 innings. Radvansky, who made his first appearance of the year, had two strikeouts.

The Pioneers kept their offense rolling and produced 16 more hits in the nightcap en route to the 10-4 victory.

Sophomore Braden Park (Oxford/Talawanda) paced the team with three hits, including a triple, while Grilliot, Snyder, junior Tim Saunders (Alliance/Alliance), Hopper and sophomore Evan Brockmeier (Marietta/Marietta) all contributed a pair of hits in the game.

The Etta Express did all of its damage in the middle innings, scoring two runs in the third, five in the fourth and two in the fifth before capping the scoring with a tenth run in the eighth. Muskingum plated all four of its runs in the sixth.

Levens (3-0) took the hill and picked up the win in game two after he catered four runs (two earned) on six hits, walked five and struck out three in five innings. Sophomore Michael Mulvey (Glenshaw, Pa./North Catholic) bridged the gap to junior closer Kyle Lindquist (Columbus/Worthington Kilbourne) by allowing two hits and striking out four in three shutout innings of relief. Lindquist struck out two in the ninth to seal the win.

Marietta is back in action at 5 p.m. Thursday (April 22) when they play host to La Roche College in a single, nine-inning, non-conference game, which was added to the schedule earlier this week.
