SCRANTON, Pa. – CUA had a tough time scoring runs on Friday as the Cardinals were swept by Scranton in a doubleheader.  The Royals took game one 3-0 and won the nightcap 8-1 to hand the Cardinals their first two-game losing streak in Landmark Conference play this season.

Scranton jumped out to a 2-0 lead in game one in the bottom of the second.  Jason Lane singled in one of the runs and Chris Stallone doubled in the other.

The Royals scored their third run in the third when Eric Pizzico crossed home following a Cardinals error.

CUA had a chance to cut into the Scranton lead in the top of the seventh when Mark Kalokitis singled and Brendan Breslin doubled to put runners on second and third with two outs.  Tim Mierzwa grounded out to third base though, and the game was over.

Rocky Sawyer was terrific on the mound for the Royals, as he went all seven innings, struck out eight and allowed only three hits.

Ron Esposito took the loss for CUA after going five innings, striking out six and allowing just one earned run on six hits.

In the second game Scranton jumped on top of CUA early with a three-run first inning.  The Cardinals pulled to within 3-1 with a single run in the fourth when Matt Grieb blasted a home run to right center to lead the frame off.  Unfortunately that was the final run CUA scored.

Scranton scored once in the fifth and then put the game out of reach with four more in the sixth.

Robert Della Polla earned the game two win for the Royals after he went seven innings, struck out seven and scattered six hits.  Andrew Carroll suffered the loss for the Cardinals after he gave up six runs, only one of which was earned, in 5.1 innings on eight hits.

On Saturday the teams will play the final game of their three-game set, beginning at 11 a.m.
