F&M Falls to Fords

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall dropped a 12-5 game to Haverford in Centennial Conference (CC) baseball action Friday afternoon. F&M can secure a spot in the CC playoffs with its next conference victory.

Haverford (27-6, 12-4 CC) jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, scoring one run in each of the first three innings. F&M (19-14, 11-5 CC) got one run across in the sixth when Will Benenson scored J.T. Triantos with double. The Fords countered with three runs of their own in the bottom of the frame to go up 6-1.

The Diplomats responded with four runs in the seventh to cut the deficit to 6-5.  Kevin Shields started things of with single up the middle and moved to third after a walk and a wild pitch. Matt Will brought Shields home with a single through the left side. Eric Bornstein was hit by a pitch, which plated Zach Honecker for the second run of the inning. With the bases juiced, Russell Tischler singled up the middle scoring Benenson and Will for the third and fourth runs of the frame.

The Fords countered with four of their in the bottom seventh and added two in the eighth to secure the victory.

Rob Anderson (0-1) took the loss for F&M. Anderson worked 5.1 innings, allowing six runs while striking out three.  Bryan Henrick picked up the victory and improved 7-1 on the year. Henrick gave up five runs in 6.2 innings and struck out five.

Benenson led the way from the plate for F&M with a run and a RBI on 2-for-3 hitting.

F&M returns to action tomorrow when the Diplomats host Swarthmore in conference double-header. First pitch is set for 12:30.
