Newport, R.I.-Junior outfielder Kyle Dumont (Pawtucket, RI) laced a two-run double to spark a five-run fifth and propel the Rhode Island College baseball team to a 9-5 win over in-state rival Salve Regina University in non-conference action Tuesday afternoon at Reynolds Field.

Juniors Brent Hopkins (Cranston, RI) and Kyle Allaire (Uxbridge, MA) each drove in two runs for the Anchormen, who snapped a five-game losing streak and improved to 13-16 on the season. Senior Charles Matarazzo (Montville, NJ) drove in two runs for the Seahawks (18-17), who have now dropped two-straight following a five-game win streak.

Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the third, Salve Regina senior Alex Melcher (Poughkeepsie, NY) singled to left center to plate sophomore Nicholas Gaj (Pawtucket, RI) and tie the game at one. Later in the inning, Matarazzo singled up the middle to bring in Melcher and grad student Tom Glynn (Woodbridge, CT) and put the Seahawks in front, 3-1.

The Anchormen answered with five funs runs in the fifth to take a 6-3 lead, which they would not relinquish. A pair of bases loaded walks by freshman reliever Thomas Betros (Poughkeepsie, NY) evened the score at three. Dumont followed with a double down the right field line to plate senior designated hitter Gary Levesque (East Providence, RI) and junior first baseman Dan Hopkins (Cranston, RI) to put RIC in front, 5-3. Sophomore Robin Lowe (Andover, MA) came on in relief of Betros and hit the first two batters he faced, the second of which forced in the Anchormen's sixth run of the afternoon.

 Rhode Island College tacked on one in the sixth and two in the seventh to build a 9-3 lead. Freshman Alex Trammell (Londonderry, NH) drove in the second of the Seahawks two seventh-inning runs to cap the scoring.

Allaire finished 3-for-6 while Dumont went 2-for-4 for Rhode Island College. Matarazzo, along with freshmen Daniel Donohue (Westbury, NY) and Dominic Di Sano (Central Falls, RI), each recorded two hits for the Seahawks.

 Betros took the loss for the Seahawks as he allowed five runs (four earned) in 0.1 innings of work. Freshman C.J. Tsoumakas (Hope, RI) started for the Anchormen and worked three scoreless innings to improve to 4-2 on the season.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will travel to Framingham State for a single game tomorrow afternoon (3:30 p.m.)
