Royals Down Baptist Bible, 30-7, Monday At Connell Park

SCRANTON, Pa.—The University of Scranton unleashed a hitting barrage Monday afternoon at Connell Park.

The Royals belted out 27 hits, including four home runs and five doubles, en route to a 30-7 victory over Baptist Bible.

Senior Jeff Manahan (Morris Plains, N.J./Morristown) and freshman Matt Maghini (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) each hit a grand slam and senior David Giglio (Wallingford, Conn./Xavier) and freshman Michael Trabulsi (Malverne, N.Y./Chaminade) each homered as the Royals won their 13th game in their last 14 outings to improve to 21-15.

Maghini finished with four hits and sophomores Richard Pohl (Belvidere, N.J./Belvidere) and Anthony Duchnowski (Dunmore, Pa./Holy Cross-Bishop O'Hara) contributed three apiece for Scranton, which led 8-1 after two innings and broke it open with a 6-run rally in the fifth and an 8-run rally in the sixth.

Junior Jon Canazon (Middletown, N.J./Chapel Field) paced the Defenders, now 5-20, with three hits and scored four runs and freshman Corbin Bower (Harrisburg, Pa./Harrisburg Christian) and senior Adam Mellor (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) had two hits apiece.

Senior pitcher Mike Yasson (Stony Brook, N.Y./Ward Melville) struck out four and allowed only two earned runs in seven innings to pick up his first win of the season for Scranton, which will host Wilkes University in a non-conference 7-inning doubleheader tomorrow afternoon at Connell Park beginning at 2:00 p.m.
