Wiand Knocks in Five Runs as Westminster Wins at Saint Vincent

LATROBE, Pa. - Junior first baseman Tim Wiand  knocked in a team season-high five runs while leading the Westminster College baseball team to its fourth straight win Thursday. The Titans won 9-4 at Saint Vincent in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action to improve to 22-11 overall and 9-8 in the PAC, while the Bearcats fell to 15-22 overall and 5-13 in league play.

Wiand went 4-for-5 with five RBI and three doubles. His four hits and three doubles tied his season highs. Wiand hit a two-run double to help give Westminster a 3-0 lead in the third inning, before his bases-clearing, three-run double in the sixth inning helped give the Titans a 6-0 advantage.

Five other Titans posted multiple hits as Westminster outhit the Bearcats 17-7.

Saint Vincent halved the Westminster lead with four runs in the eighth inning before the Titans tacked on an insurance run in the ninth.

Freshman pitcher Ron Sullivan  improved to 4-2 on the season by tossing seven plus innings with four runs (2 earned) off five hits and four walks. Sullivan struck out six.

Westminster hosts Grove City Friday in a home game that will be held at Neshannock High School in New Castle at 3 p.m.
