The Concordia (Texas) Tornados opened the 2011 NCAA Division III West Region Championship Baseball Tournament by knocking off top seed Linfield 5-2 Wednesday at Walt Driggers Field. The Tornados, as the No. 6 seed in the regional, pounded out 13 hits in the victory.

CTX struck first in the fourth inning on an RBI double from Robert Brown and a run-scoring single by Kyle Bieschke. Then, in the sixth inning, Collin Jannssen hit a solo home run on the first pitch of the inning over the left field wall.

Linfield battled back with two runs in the sixth inning scoring on a bases-loaded walk and an RBI groundout to cut the lead to one. However, the Tornados' Ryan Ullman threw the final four innings of the contest for CTX limiting Linfield's Wildcats to just one hit and no runs to pick up his fourth save of the season.

Scott Hays picked up the win for the Tornados on the mound to move to 3-1 on the year. He scattered seven hits, allowed two runs (one earned), walked five and struck out two.

The Wildcats' Ryan Larson threw seven innings in the loss to fall to 7-3 on the year. He allowed five runs (four earned), walked two and struck out four.

CTX plays the loser of fourth-seeded Trinity and third-seeded Redlands on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. while Linfield takes on the loser of No. 2 Chapman and No. 5 UT-Tyler in an elimination game at noon.
