Jeremy Rubens (Sr. • New Franken) and Phil Schreiber (Jr. • Kaukauna) each threw a complete game, allowing two runs total, to lead the UW-Oshkosh baseball team past Western Connecticut State University and Otterbein University (Ohio) on Friday (March 25) in Fort Myers, Fla.

The Titans (7-1) used eight strikeouts from Rubens to gain a 5-0 victory over the Colonials (6-5) in game one. Rubens did not walk a batter in recording his fourth career shutout. During the nightcap, Schreiber posted an 11-2 triumph against the Cardinals (7-5) to achieve the 1,300th win in UW-Oshkosh history (57 years).

Game one was quiet until the Titans received a walk and single during the fourth inning. Doug Beattie (So. • Escanaba, Mich.) came up next and drilled a single to centerfield to go up. UW-Oshkosh added three runs on errors, along with an Alex Mullendore (Jr. • Glendale Heights, Ill.) run-scoring single, in the fifth frame to complete the scoring.

Rubens posted nine zeroes on the scoreboard, while the Colonials' only threat was when they tallied two singles during the third. Tim Nelson accounted for two of his team's six base hits.

Bobby Coyne started and took the loss, allowing three earned runs on nine hits in 4.1 frames. Tim Giuliano took over and fired 4.2 scoreless innings. The Titans got 11 hits off WCSU pitching, including three apiece by Mullendore and Kyle Van Abel (Jr. • Kaukauna).

Otterbein University had a brief lead in the second contest, taking the advantage on Robb Hendershot's first-inning single. UW-Oshkosh thundered back with four runs in both the third and sixth frames. The third-inning outburst featured run-scoring hits by Mullendore, Jake Dostalek (Fr. • Waterford) and Bobby Kachel (So. • La Crosse).

Tyler Kamps (So. • Appleton) drove home two Titans with a double to make it 7-2 during the sixth. Mullendore and Dostalek each tacked on a run-scoring single to post their multi-hit games. Derek Layton (So. • Cross Plains) topped UW-Oshkosh with three of the team's 15 hits.

Schreiber struck out four to improve to 2-0 this season. The victory was the Titans' seventh in a row, while it also snapped the Cardinals' seven-game win streak. John LaCorte took the loss after yielding seven earned runs over 5.1 frames.

UW-Oshkosh concludes its Florida trip with a doubleheader against The University of Scranton (Pa.) on Saturday (March 26) in Fort Myers.
