No. 23 BSC Baseball defeats Frostburg State, 6-3

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.—The 23rd-ranked Birmingham-Southern baseball team defeated Frostburg State today, 6-3, in Fayetteville, N.C., in the Methodist University Tournament. The Panthers move to 2-3 on the season.

Frostburg State went up 2-0 in the bottom of the second, and then went up 3-0 in the bottom of the fifth.

BSC tied it up in the top of the sixth on a home run by Bruce Maxwell, a score on a wild pitch, and a run scored on an error.

The Panthers pulled ahead in the top of the seventh on an RBI by Stephen Denton, and then went up 6-3 in the top of the ninth on an RBI by Evan Grovenstein.

BSC recorded 14 total hits, led by Denton with four; Frostburg State had eight hits.

Blake Stevens started on the mound and went 5.1 innings, allowing seven hits and two earned runs with four strikeouts. Blake Yance came in for the remainder of the game, giving up one hit with six strikeouts in 3.2 innings.
