PORTLAND – Pacific's offense cobbled out 12 hits and just one extra base knock Saturday, but it was enough to give Pacific's pitching an easy day as the Boxers rolled to a 17-3 rout of Northwest Conference rival Puget Sound in their second game of the Northwest-Cascade Challenge at Hilken Community Stadium.
 
The Boxers (3-6) benefited from a total of 16 walks given up by three Puget Sound pitchers, which helped give the Boxers a five-run first inning and three-run frames in the third and fifth. The Boxers also parlayed a sixth-inning error into a four-run sixth inning.
 
Greg Tellez (Sr., White Salmon, Wash.) led the Boxers at the plate with a 3 for 3 day with a run and three runs batted in.  Kevin Schwartz (Sr., Milwaukie, Ore.) went 2 for 3 with two runs scored while Conor Clark (Jr., Tigard, Ore.) had three RBI thanks to a two-out pinch-hit triple in the sixth.
 
The offensive effort made for an easy day for Pacific ace Rob Dittrick (Jr., Mililani, Hawaii), who picked up his first win of the season.  Dittrick allowed two runs, one earned, on four hits with two walks and three strikeouts in five innings.  Relievers Tyler Kotchik (Fr., Beaverton, Ore.) and Colin McCusker (Fr., Olympia, Wash.) combined to allowed one run on four hits in the final three innings.
 
Pacific opened the contest with a five-run second inning, scoring all of their runs with two outs.  Nate Rasmussen (Sr., Sandy, Utah) started with a one-out single before Puget Sound starter Matt Robinson hit a batter and issued a walk to lead the bases.  Nick Tasaka (Jr., Hawaii Kai, Hawaii) and Trux French (Jr., Kennewick, Wash.) each followed with RBI singles before Tellez roped a two-run single down the left field line to score Schwartz and Tasaka.  French later scored when Tellez stole second base.
 
Puget Sound issued five walks and a hit batter to Pacific in the top of the third, three of which scored runs.  The Boxers then scored one in the fourth on a double steal attempt. In the fifth, Tellez, and Logan Moen (Jr., Brier, Wash.) hit leadoff singles while Jared Van Hoon (Sr., Lake Oswego, Ore.) loaded the bases with a walk.  Tellez scored on a wild pitch before Jordan Siu (Jr., Redmond, Wash.) scored two with his single down the right field line.
 
Brad Williams (Fr., Olympia, Wash.) reached on an error to lead off the sixth, opening the gates for a four-run inning.  Tellez followed with a one-out single before reliever Jeff Walton issued walks to Moen and Van Hoon to score a run.  Two batters later, Clark stepped to the plate to lace his bases-clearing, two-out triple to center field to cap the frame.  Pacific would add one run in the top of the ninth.
 
Puget Sound (2-5-1) scored single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.  Lucas Stone scored in the fourth when he singled and came home on a sacrifice fly.  Jake Boley scored in the fifth on a wild pitch and Addison Melzer scored in the sixth on his solo home run to right field.
 
Robinson took the loss for Puget Sound, allowing eight runs on four hits with eight walks and six strikeouts in 2.2 innings.  Melzer and Boley each had two hits to lead the Loggers at the plate.
 
Pacific concludes the Northwest-Cascade Challenge on Sunday as they take on host Concordia (Ore.) at 4 p.m.  The originally scheduled doubleheader was reduced to a single game due to rain on Friday, which pushed back the complete tournament schedule.
