Choctaws Split Doubleheader with Hardin-Simmons

CLINTON, MS - The Mississippi College baseball split a pair of games with Hardin-Simmons on a windy Friday at Frierson Field.  The Choctaws dropped the first game, 5-0, before winning the second game, 9-1.

The Cowboys used two runs in the second and sixth and one in the seventh to fuel their shutout win.

HSU was led at the plate by Andrew Rehling who went 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Brett Hightower went 3-for-3 for the Choctaws.

Senior Ian Underwood (2-1)  took the loss for the Choctaws, while Troy Nicholson (2-0) earned the complete game shutout win for the Cowboys.

In the second game, the Choctaws scored in four different innings, including a four-run fourth in which senior Spencer Brunson belted a three-run home run over the center field wall.

The Choctaws got deep into the bullpen of HSU forcing them to throw six different pitchers in the game.

Brunson led the Choctaws at the plate in the second game going 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored.

Senior Ryan Glover earned the win give up one run on four hits in all nine innings of work.

Andrew Jacques was credited with the loss for HSU.

Senior Jeremy Simmons led the Choctaws at the plate on the day going 4-for-7 with one RBI and two runs scored.

The Choctaws and Cowboys will finish up their three-game series with a final game on Saturday scheduled at noon.
