Belton, TX— The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team used a seven-run third inning to take control of game two and the Cru went on to a 10-5 victory to salvage a doubleheader split with University of the Ozarks Saturday in Belton. The Eagles held off a late UMHB rally for a 2-1 win in game one. UMHB is now 8-5 on the season following the split. Ozarks is 6-7 on the year.

The Cru's seven-run third inning made the difference in a 10-5 game one victory. UMHB took a 1-0 lead before Mitchell Powers tripled home two runs to make it 2-1 Ozarks in the top of the third of game two. The Cru exploded for seven runs in the bottom of that frame. Josh Fredrick and Chris Florack both hit two-run doubles and Zach Young, Braden Embry and Seth Lynn also drove in runs. Young's RBI single gave UMHB a 9-2 edge in the fourth. The Eagles closed the gap to 9-4 in the top of the sixth, but Seth Mogavero stole home in the bottom of that inning to push it to 10-4. Ozarks scored one in the bottom of the ninth, but left the bases loaded. Cameron Arnett earned the win for UMHB, striking out 10 in seven innings of work. Young, Florack and Braden Embry had two hits apiece for the Cru.

UMHB's late rally was not enough to overcome Ozarks' early lead in a 2-1 game loss. Sam Shook doubled home a run to make it 1-0 Ozarks in the top of the second. John Singler's RBI single pushed it to 2-0 in the top of the third. The Cru cut it to 2-1 on Sam Ofield's RBI grounder in the bottom of the sixth, but that's as close as UMHB could get. Taylor Burrow took the loss for UMHB to fall to 1-3. Tyler Erickson tossed a complete-game, eight-hitter to get the win for the Eagles. Mogavero, Fredrick and Lynn had two hits each for the Cru.

The Cru will return to action with a 6:00 PM non-conference game against Wabash College Wednesday at Red Murff Field. UMHB will then open American Southwest Conference West Division play with a three-game series at Texas Lutheran University next weekend in Seguin.
