YAPHANK, N.Y. - After building a 6-1 lead in the first four innings, the Oswego State (0-2) baseball team allowed SUNY Old Westbury (4-2) to score three runs in the bottom of the ninth and another in the tenth as the Panthers handed the Lakers a 10-9 loss.

With two outs in the top of the first, Scott Buniak (So., Clifton Park, N.Y.) hit an infield single and stole second before Matt Miller (Jr., Montoursville, N.Y.) drove him in with another single for a 1-0 Laker lead.

Old Westbury matched the run in the bottom the second, but the Lakers scored twice in the top of the second. Mike Stark (Jr. Rochester, N.Y.) drew a two-out walk and Tyler Baker (So., Hannibal N.Y.) followed with a single before John Rauseo (Fr., Mattituck, N.Y.) drilled a two-RBI double to left center.

Brian Hamilton (Fr., Liverpool, N.Y.) walked and scored to start a three-run rally in the fourth inning. Baker brought in Hamilton when he reached on an error and then Baker scored on a single to right by Rauseo. Buniak finished the rally with a two-out triple to bring in Rauseo and put the Lakers up 6-1.

Miller hit a RBI double to score Buniak in the top of the seventh to put the Lakers up 7-2, while Stark hit a solo home run in the top of the eighth.

A bases-loaded double in the bottom of the eighth by Old Westbury cut the lead to 8-6, but the Lakers scored another run in the top of the ninth when Sheldon Paura (Fr., West Monroe, N.Y.) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. However, a double play ended the threat for more.

Old Westbury quickly tied the game in the bottom of the ninth with a three-run home run with one out, forcing extra innings.

The Lakers had a one-out baserunner in the top of the tenth after Ed Charles (Jr., Auburn, N.Y.) was hit by a pitch, but Oswego State could not bring in the run.

A lead-off single to open the top of the tenth followed by a wild pitch helped Old Westbury drive in the winning run with a one-out single to right center.

The Lakers used five pitchers in the game with Mark Schaper (Sr., Warwick, N.Y.) working the first five innings with three strikeouts.

Rauseo, Miller and Buniak all finished with two hits to lead the offense.
