DOVER, Del. – Wesley College's baseball team split its doubleheader with No. 6 Salisbury Sunday afternoon at Bob Reed Field.  The Wolverines (6-2, 1-1 CAC) took the opener, 4-3 before dropping a 9-3 heartbreaker in game two.  The Sea Gulls are now 7-2 overall and 1-1 in the Capital Athletic Conference.

Senior DJ Keckler (3-0) went the distance on the mound for Wesley in the opener allowing three unearned runs on eight hits while striking out eight.  Sam Farnell and Morgan Rupp both collected two hits and drove in runs in the opener while Farnell also scored twice. 

The Wolverines took a 2-0 lead after the second inning.  Farnell earned a one-out free pass and advanced to second on a Rupp single. Bryan Reshetar then drove in Farnell with a double down the line, advancing Rupp to third, who later scored on a Corey Jefferson groundout.

Farnell and Rupp also got involved in the act when Wesley tacked on two more very important in the sixth.  After Geoff Kimmel singled down the left field line with one out, Farnell drove him in with a double to left.  Farnell later scored on Rupp's single to right. 

Salisbury threatened Keckler in the fourth but the senior right-hander got out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam by fanning John Schiotis and getting Chris Gaines to fly out to center.

The Sea Gulls scored three runs in the seventh on two hits and two Wolverine errors but Keckler struck out Hank Adams to give the Wolverines the victory. 

After falling behind after an inning to start game two, Wesley cut the lead in half with a sacrifice fly by Farnell.  Farnell's drive to deep left scored Rob Benedict, who singled to lead off the rally, from third.

Both Farnell and Rupp drove in runs again in the third to give the Wolverines and starting pitcher Jordan Lozzi a 3-2 lead.

Lozzi (2-1) got two outs with a runner on second in the seventh but Salisbury was finally able to solve the southpaw and scored seven runs to take a 9-3 lead.  

A junior from Forest Hill, Md., Lozzi was credited with five earned runs on eight hits while striking out five in 6.2 innings of work.  Mark Mattern was unable to retire a batter before Andrew Cooper got the final out.

Benedict and Jon Carlson each had two hits to pace the Wolverines offensively in game two while Farnell drove in two runs.
