Baldwin-Wallace College Baseball Team Falls to Muskingum, 3-1, to Snap Five-Game Win Streak

PORT CHARLOTTE, FLORIDA – The Baldwin-Wallace College baseball team fell to Muskingum University 3-1 today (Tuesday, March 6, 2012) on the fourth day of its annual Spring Break trip at the Snowbird Baseball Classic. The loss snapped a five-game winning streak for the Yellow Jackets.
With its loss, B-W is now 5-2 overall. Muskingum improved to 2-1 overall.
The Yellow Jackets got on the board first, scoring a run in the first inning. The Muskies answered in the second with a run to even the score at 1-1. Muskingum broke the tie in the eighth inning, scoring two runs, to take a 3-1 lead and then hold on for the victory.
Sophomore right-hander Jon Capadona (North Royalton) started on the mound for B-W and threw six and two-thirds strong innings, allowing one run (earned) on six hits. In relief, senior Bill Bostelman (Marion/ Harding) threw one- third of an inning, allowing two runs (two earned) on one hit, walking one and striking out one. Junior Jon Tenley (Wadsworth) finished the game for B-W, allowing no runs and striking out one.
At the plate, the Yellow Jackets were led by senior shortstop Anthony Longhitano (Cuyahoga Falls), who went three-for-four. Longhitano also led B-W defensively with five assists.
B-W returns to action tomorrow, March 7, 2012, when it plays Moravian (Pa.) College in a single, nine-inning game at 3 p.m. The Yellow Jackets are playing eight varsity and four junior varsity games in seven days in the Sunshine State. B-W's first home game is on Wednesday, April 4, against nonleague and cross-town rival Case Western Reserve University at Heritage Field in Berea at 4 p.m.
