Winter Haven, FL --- David Trujillo (Sutton, MA) went 3-for-3 with three RBI and a walk, John Flynn (Albion, ME) added three hits and freshman Andrew Portera (Alpharetta, GA) tossed a complete game in his collegiate debut as the WPI Baseball team plowed through RIT 7-2 on Thursday at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational.  With the win, WPI moves to 4-2 on its 10-game spring break trip.

The Engineers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the second when Steve Petry (Worcester, MA) hit an RBI sacrifice fly to center field to score Trujillo from third. An inning later Nick Bean(Middleboro, MA) smacked another sacrifice fly, this time to right, to plate Flynn. Trujillo followed that up with an RBI single up the middle and WPI was rolling.

In the fifth, Trujillo would reach base on an error of a dropped fly that was credited as a sacrifice fly that brought home Brendan Walsh (Windham, NH) and in the seventh Trujillo hit an RBI single to left to bring Flynn home from third. Two batters later, Kyle Bartosik (Midland Park, NJ) singled home Trujillo.  Petry rounded out the WPI scoring when he was chased home by a Flynn single in the eighth.

Portera had an outstanding performance on the mound, carrying a shutout into the eighth inning.  The rookie gave up just one earned run and scattering four hits over nine innings.

In addition to Trujillo and Flynn's offense, Matt Blackman (Bedford, NH) and Walsh each collected a pair of hits.

WPI is back in action on Friday when they play Colby-Sawyer in a 9am doubleheader.
