(BABSON PARK, Fla.) - The 22nd-ranked Thomas More College baseball team swept Penn State University-Altoona today (Thursday, March 8, 2012) in a nonconference doubleheader during the fourth day of the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational at Webber International University Field in Babson Park, Florida.  The Saints won game one, 16-6, and the nightcap, 18-1.

With the sweep, the Saints improve to 4-1 and the Lions fall to 0-8.

In game one, the Saints scored six in the first, one in the second, one in the third, three in the fourth, five in the sixth, while the Lions scored their six runs in the fourth.

Sophomore Andy Roenker (Taylor Mill, Ky./Holy Cross) earned the win on the mount as he went four innings giving up six runs (one earned) on nine hits and striking out one. 

Four Saints had multiple hits in game one as junior shortstop David Kennett (Grove City, Ohio/Grove City) was two-for-three with a double, three runs batted-in and one run scored, sophomore second baseman Jason Handley (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) was two-for-four with a double, a RBI and a run scored, senior catcher Andrew Clements (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) was two-for-three with a double and three runs scored and junior center fielder Brandon Nutini (Edgewood, Ky./Covington Catholic) was two-for-four with four RBI and two runs scored.

In the nightcap, the Saints plated five runs in the first, two in the second, eight in the fifth and three in the seventh, while Penn State-Altoona scored its lone run in the fourth.

Freshman outfielder Nick Connor (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) led the offense as he was four-for-four with three runs scored.  Three other Saints had multiple hits in the game as senior first baseman Andrew Thole (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) was two-for-three with a double and two RBI, freshman outfielder Jordan Shelton (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson) was two-for-four with two RBI and three runs scored and sophomore third baseman Travis Miller (Erlanger, Ky./St. Henry) was three-for-four with three RBI and two runs scored.

Freshman Tim Baldrick (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) earned the win as he pitched five innings giving up one run (earned) on five hits and striking out five.

Thomas More will close out its Florida schedule tomorrow (Friday, March 9) when it plays Beloit College at 9:30 a.m. at Chain of Lake Field #5 in Winter Haven, Florida.
