WINCHESTER, Va. - No. 20/RV Shenandoah University won its seventh straight home baseball game with an 11-8 non-league victory over PSU-Altoona Tuesday afternoon.

The Hornets (12-5) took a commanding lead with a six-run third over the Lions (2-9) and led 10-4 before Altoona made things interesting with four runs in the eighth.

Shenandoah answered with one run in the bottom of the eighth before freshman Matt Riegler earned his second save with a scoreless ninth.

Coming on for classmate Adam Emerson, Riegler induced a 4-3 groundball and then struck out Tim Norris to end the contest.

Riegler's performance made a winner of senior Matt Minch (2-0), who came on in relief of Jeff Stanek to earn the victory.

Minch allowed one run on two hits and one walk against three strikeouts in 2 2/3 innings of work.

Kyle Gladu, Andrew Zarobila and Emerson all got one out each before Riegler finished up.

Offensively, junior Joey Donofrio and sophomore Dan Powers each had three hits with Powers hitting a two-run HR in that six-run third.

Cory Nelson and Nick Beall each had two hits with Nelson driving in three.

Seven of nine Hornet hitters had at least one hit.

Shenandoah hosts No. 25 Bridgewater on Thursday in a 3:00 non-league contest.
