Handley Leads No. 19 Thomas More to a 12-7 Win Over Hanover in Home Opener

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - Sophomore second baseman Jason Handley (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) had three hits to lead the 19th-ranked Thomas More College baseball team to a 12-7 win over Hanover College today (Tuesday, March 13, 2012) in the Saints' home opener at Thomas More Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.

With the win, the Saints improve to 6-1 and with the loss, the Panthers fall to 6-4.

Thomas More scored three runs in the second, five in the fourth, one in the fifth, one in the sixth and two in the eighth, while Hanover plated one in the first, three in the second, two in the fifth and one in the eighth.

Handley led the Saints' offense as he was three-for-five with a home run, a double, two runs batted-in and a run scored.  Seven other Saints had multiple hits in the game as junior shortstop David Kennett (Grove City, Ohio/Grove City) was two-for-four with two doubles, four RBI and a run scored, freshman left fielder Nick Connor (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) was two-for-four with a RBI and two runs scored, senior first baseman Andrew Thole (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) was two-for-four with two RBI and a run scored, junior designated hitter Ryan Darner (Burlington, Ky./Covington Catholic) was two-for-five with a RBI, sophomore third baseman Travis Miller (Erlanger, Ky./St. Henry) was two-for-five with two doubles and two runs scored, senior catcher Andrew Clements (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) was two-for-four with a RBI and two runs scored and junior center fielder Brandon Nutini (Edgewood, Ky./Covington Catholic) was two-for-three with a double, a RBI and two runs scored.

Thomas More staffed the game on the mound as five pitchers took the mound and sophomore Andy Roenker (Taylor Mill, Ky./Holy Cross) pitched two innings of relief and retired all six batters he faced to earn the win.

Thomas More returns to action tomorrow (Wednesday, March 14) when it travels to Danville, Kentucky for a 5:30 p.m. non-conference game with Centre College.
