Port Charlotte, FL - Senior lefthander Sean Hille (Edison, NJ, St. Joseph's (Metuchen)) tossed a three-hit shutout, striking out nine as Montclair State won its second straight blanking top-ranked Marietta College, 4-0 on Thursday.

The Red Hawks improved to 4-5 overall gaining a measure of revenge against the defending national champions as the Pioneers topped MSU 12-2 on Tuesday. Anthony Bowens (Nutley, NJ, Nutley) and Juan Perdomo, Jr. (South Brunswick, NJ, South Brunswick) had two hits apiece for Montclair, which beat Marietta for the first time since a 6-5, 10-inning win in Salisbury, MD in 2006.

Montclair won the second of three matchups this season between the teams, who have combined for eight NCAA Division III titles. The Red Hawks are now 5-6 versus the Pioneers, which includes five games in the Division III World Series. Two of MSU's five wins have come via shutout as Dan Olsson outdueled Terry Mulholland with a one-hit, 1-0 victory in the 1984 World Series in Marietta, Ohio.

The two are scheduled to play on Sunday, May 25 in Marietta at 1:00 pm.

Hille evened his record at 1-1 as he allowed two singles and a double in recording his 15th career win, sixth career complete game and the second shutout.

After a scoreless first, Montclair State broke through with a three-run third as they took advantage of two Marietta errors. Matt Moreno (Park Ridge, NJ, Park Ridge) singled to lead off and was safe at second as the throw on the force play was mishandled. Jason Chesterman (Bloomfield, NJ, Bloomfield) laid down a bunt that was also misplayed into an error allowing Moreno to score as the Red Hawks grabbed a 1-0 lead.

Perdomo singled through the left side scoring Scott Glozzy (Hackettstown, NJ, Warren Hills) with the second run and Chesterman crossed the plate on a passed ball giving MSU the 3-0 lead.

That would be all that Hille would need as he worked his way around five walks and two mini jams. In the fifth, the Pioneers put two in scoring position with two out however Hille registered a strikeout to end that threat. In the seventh, Marietta got a leadoff double and put another runner on with one out. Hille retired the next two hitters on a pop out and foul out.

Montclair State tacked on a run in the fifth. Kevin Bond (Cedar Grove, NJ, Cedar Grove) walked and stole second. He went to third on a ground out before scoring on Glozzy's RBI single.

Montclair closes out its Snowbird Classic appearance on Friday, March 16 as they face Denison University at 10:00 am.
