WINCHESTER, Va. - Junior Kurt Krout reached on a catcher's interference to give the No. 20 Shenandoah University baseball team a 4-3 victory over Greensboro in USA South Conference action Saturday afternoon.

With the score tied at 3-3 and the bases loaded with one out in the ninth, Krout knocked a 2-2 fastball from GC reliever David Schilling foul over the left field fence.

Catcher's interference was ruled on the play, sending Corbin Lucas home for the game-winning run for the Hornets (14-5, 5-2 USA South).

The ending completed a comeback victory for SU over Greensboro (15-7, 3-4).

The Pride had taken a 3-0 lead with two runs in the second and one more in the fifth off of Hornets starter Vince Claudio, but failed to break the game open when they had their chances.

After GC starter Jacob Cadle was perfect through the first three innings, Shenandoah began its comeback with one run in the fifth before chasing Cadle with a two-run sixth.

Claudio, who had seven strikeouts, departed after eight innings of work.

Freshman Matt Riegler (2-0) worked a 1-2-3 ninth to get the victory.

Schilling (3-2), who worked out of a two-on, one-out jam in the sixth, walked pinch hitterAndrew Creamer to lead off the SU ninth.

After pinch runner Brandon Ewing was balked to second, GC elected to give freshman Corbin Lucas an intentional pass.

The Pride then made a great play to cut down Ewing at third on an attempted sacrifice bunt from Mike Minch before Schilling loaded the bases by walking Joey Donofrio.

Krout fouled two pitches back and took two balls before the interference was called.

These two teams are back in action tomorrow at 1:00.
