Wesley Takes Series From St. Mary’s

ST. MARY'S, Md. – Wesley College's baseball team won its Capital Athletic Conference series at St. Mary's (Md.) with a 4-2 victory on Sunday afternoon at the Hawk Nest.  The Wolverines are now 12-4 overall and 3-3 in the league while the Seahawks move to 12-6 and 5-4 in league play.

Zach Stuart (2-1) earned the win for Wesley as he allowed just one earned run on four hits in seven innings of work.  Andrew Cooper allowed just one hit in the final two innings to record his first save of the year.

Trailing 1-0 after two innings, the Wolverines took the lead in the top of the third with a pair of runs.  Rob Benedict led off the frame with a single and Jon Carlson advanced him to second with a shot up the middle.  Sam Farnell then reached on a fielder's choice, putting runners on the corners and Geoff Kimmel brought them both in with a double to left.

St. Mary's tied it up in the sixth but Kimmel was involved once again in the eighth as the Wolverines took a 4-2 lead.  Kimmel started the inning with a single and advanced to third on an error and a single by Steve Perone. With the bases loaded, Bryan Reshetar singled to left center to score Kimmel and Matt Robles followed with another single to score Morgan Rupp.

Cooper retired the side 1-2-3 in the eighth and allowed a one-out single in the ninth but got the Seahawks to ground into a 6-4-3 double play to end the game.

The Wolverines outhit the Seahawks, 10-5, and got multi-hit games from Kimmel, Perone and Robles.  Kimmel drove in two runs on the day.

Next up for Wesley is Haverford on Tuesday, March 20 for a 3:30 pm single game at Bob Reed Field.
