GREENSBORO, N.C. – Tico Mendoza threw seven sharp innings and A.J. Rosenthal collected his sixth save in Frostburg State's 6-3 baseball win at Guilford College Wednesday.

John Barrett had three hits and two runs batted in for the Bobcats (11-6), who extended their winning streak to five. Tyler Hawthorne's two-run homer in the fourth inning opened a 3-0 lead for the visitors.

Mendoza (1-2) retired the Quakers (12-12) in order for the first three innings before walking D.J. Phillips with one out in the fourth. John Macon Smith broke up the no-hitter one batter later with a bloop single to center.

Smith led off the seventh with a single and Kent Peterson doubled to put runners at second and third with none out. Mendoza yielded sacrifice flies to Zack Montalbano and Justin Pittman, which made it a 3-2 game, but induced a Ben Anderson grounder to end the inning.

Rosenthal, who saved Frostburg's league win at the University of Mary Washington Tuesday, yielded an RBI single in the ninth to Montalbano, but left runners on the corners for the save.

Smith finished with three hits for Guilford, including a double. Peterson was two-for-four and Montalbano singled to extend his hitting streak to nine. The Bobcats touched Guilford starter Justin Morrison (3-3) for eight hits and three runs in four innings.

Guilford returns to action Saturday at noon (3/24) in a doubleheader against Old Dominion Athletic Conference-rival Eastern Mennonite.
