WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel scored three runs in the first inning to propel the squad to a 4-1 non-conference baseball victory over Penn State-Mont Alto in the home opener on Wednesday.

James Chiorello (East Windsor, Md./Lawrenceville Prep) tossed a one-hitter for the Green Terror (10-3), who won its ninth consecutive game for the longest winning streak in program history. In addition to the team's first one-hitter since 2006 and first nine-inning one-hitter since 1999, Chiorello also struck out 12 batters – the second most by a pitcher in program history.

Zeb Thorson recorded the lone hit for the Lions (0-1), ripping a two-out triple to the right-center gap in the sixth inning before scoring on a passed ball for his team's lone run.

Patrick Christopher (Union Beach, N.J./St. John Vianney) led off the bottom of the first inning with a triple over the third baseman's head and into the corner.

Tyler Jackow (Colonia, N.J./Colonia) followed with a bunt that went for a base hit to put runners at the corners before Ricky LaSota (Burtonsville, Md./Paint Branch) laced a double to center, scoring Christopher and putting runners at second and third.

Chiorello helped his own cause with a double to the right-center gap to clear the bases and stake himself to a 3-0 lead without an out in the first inning.

Nolan Little (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) reached on a fielding error to lead off the third before stealing second base. He moved to third on a groundout before scoring on a Marshall Betts (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur) two-out single.

Chiorello retired the first 17 batters he faced keyed by a Christopher diving grab in the fifth inning to preserve the then-perfect game.

Chiorello, who entered the game with a 3-1 record and 1.27 ERA, lowered his earned-run average to 0.89 after not allowing an earned run. It also lowered Division III's ninth-best staff ERA to 2.12.

The Green Terror returns to action at Penn State-Harrisburg on Friday. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
