CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College baseball took both games of a double-header against Austin College in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play at Warrior Field on Saturday. The Warriors (16-8, 8-2) took the first game by the score of 8-3 then topped the 'Roos (4-17, 1-9) 10-9 in 10 innings in the nightcap.

Hendrix is now 10-0 at home on the season and have won eight straight SCAC games.

In the opener, senior starter Geoff Lomax went the full seven innings, striking out five while allowing eight hits, three runs and a walk to improve his record to 5-2 on the year. Austin's Cullen Calabria (1-5) gave up nine hits, eight runs, a walk and struck out in six innings.

The Warriors scored three times in the bottom of the first on a two-run double by senior catcher Andrew Thames and a sacrifice fly off the bat of senior right fielder Nathan Harr. In the second, senior third baseman Kyle Raskin led off with a double and scored after a Clark Sims base hit that lead to an error. Sophomore designated hitter Collin Radack doubled in Sims and scored after a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly by freshman left fielder Ryan Ritz.

Austin cut the deficit to 6-1 in the third when left fielder Shane Williams led off with a base hit and later scored on a sacrifice fly by third baseman Josh Coughenower. Travis Gibson drove in designated hitter Dylan Day with a base hit in the fourth to make the game 6-2.

Freshman shortstop Brady Newville singled and scored on a Sims triple to in the sixth. Senior first baseman Mark Vlaskamp drove in Sims with a base hit to advance the lead to 8-2. Gibson hit a solo home run over the right field fence in the seventh for the final run of the game.

Sims, Vlaskamp and Radack each had two hits for Warriors. Gibson and shortstop Mason Leech registered two hits a piece for Austin.

In the second game, Hendrix jumped out to a 9-2 lead after four innings. The Warriors picked up two runs in both the first and third innings, then scored five times on five hits and an error in the fourth. The 'Roos slowly chipped away at the lead, picking up a run in the fifth and sixth, then three runs in the seventh, making the game 9-7. After another run in the eighth, Leech singled in Williams, who led the top of the ninth off with a pinch base hit, to tie the game and force extra innings.

Sophomore reliever Justin Mosbey found himself in trouble in the top of the 10th when John Schulmeister, Colt Herron and Todd Takabuki loaded the bases with three straight singles. Gibson came up to bat and flew out to Warrior left fielder Austin Womack, who threw out Schulmeister at the plate to catcher Seth Mobley, who in turn threw to Sims at second, tagging out Takabuki for the 7-2-4 triple play. It was the first triple play for Hendrix since Matt Gaglio recorded an unassisted one in 2010 against Ouachita Baptist.

Senior center fielder Aaron Bowen led off the bottom of the 10th with a base hit, then stole second with two outs. With a 1-1 count, Vlaskamp singled through the left side, scoring Bowen for the game-winning run.

Vlaskamp went 4-for-5 with three runs and Bowen was 4-for-5 with two runs scored. Thames went 3-for-4 with a double and four driven in and Radack and Harr added two hits each. Austin catcher Chase Muder went 4-for-6.

Mosbey (2-1) picked up the win, allowing six hits and run and a strikeout in 2.1 innings. Freshman starter Nino Tutino struck out six in five innings. Austin Molinaro (0-1) struck out three and gave up two hits, a run and a walk in 1.2 innings in the losing effort.

The Warriors will try to complete the season sweep of the 'Roos on Sunday at 1 p.m.
