CINCINNATI, Ohio – Franklin College narrowly fell in the opener, but poured on the offense in the second game and gained a split of its baseball doubleheader with Mount St. Joseph today.

The twinbill was played at University of Cincinnati's Marge Schott Stadium.

In the scheduled seven-inning opener, the host team Lions narrowly edged FC 3-2 to snap the Grizzlies' seven-game winning streak and hand Franklin senior pitcher Nathan Ellis (Plainfield, Ind./H.S.) his first loss in five decisions. Sophomore center fielder Scott Windler (Lafayette, Ind./Central Catholic) had the visitors' lone RBI on a ground-out in the sixth inning.

But Franklin got the bats going in the second contest, rolling to a 17-6 victory and improving to 1-1 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference and 13-3 overall.

Pitcher Shawn Mattingly (Indianapolis, Ind./Decatur Central) earned the win to improve to 3-1. The senior right-hander allowed eight hits and three earned runs – out of six scored against him. Mattingly struck out four and did not walk a batter in six innings of work.

Sophomore designated hitter Rickey DuBois (Mishawaka, Ind./Penn) belted a three-run triple in the third inning and junior catcher Jesse Wilson (Seymour, Ind./H.S.) and senior third baseman Jordon Klinedinst (Lebanon, Ind./H.S.) hit two-run doubles in the seventh to highlight Franklin's attack. Wilson and Klinedinst also had three RBIs each.

Junior Zach Osowski (Patriot, Ind./Switzerland County) contributed a solo home run for the Grizzlies, who totaled 13 hits to the Lions' eight.
