FRANKLIN, Ind. (April 1) – They did it again.

The Grizzlies pulled out an improbable baseball victory, capitalizing on three errors and scoring two runs - all with two outs already – in the bottom of the ninth inning to edge Manchester 11-10 at John P. McDowell Memorial Field late this afternoon.

The decision improved Franklin College, ranked 30th this week in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper's Division III poll, to 4-2 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference and 16-4 overall.

The Grizzlies won the opening game of the three-game series in their last at-bat on Saturday.

The stunned Spartans, whose go-ahead run in the top of the ninth ended up being an April Fool's Day joke of sorts, fell to 3-3 in the conference and 11-10.

After junior outfielder Zach Osowski reached base on an error at second base, freshman second baseman Mitch Frey hit a fly ball to right field that was dropped.

Osowski scored to tie the game at 10-all and Frey then scampered home on a subsequent errant throw from MC's second baseman to third.

The Spartans. who collected 14 hits to Franklin's 11, jumped out to a 3-0 lead in their first at-bat when shortstop Corey Marchant hit a home run with two runners aboard.

But the Grizzlies answered with six runs in the bottom of the first inning, which was highlighted by Osowski's two-run double. Osowski later tripled in two runs in the fifth.

Junior catcher Jesse Wilson drove in three runs in all for FC.

Freshman relief pitcher Seth Powers pitched the last two innings for the hosts. The right-hander surrendered a go-ahead run in the top of the ninth, but ended up earning the win to improve to 3-1.

Spartans reliever Kyle Konarski (1-2), who entered the contest in the fifth inning, took the loss.

After FC scored two runs in the fifth inning and added another in the sixth to go up 9-6, Manchester third baseman Jordan Nieman belted a three-run homer to tie the game in the seventh.
