FOREST GROVE – For the second time this season, Pacific took advantage of a pair of away games on their home field Monday as the Boxers took both ends of a Northwest Conference baseball doubleheader from Willamette at Chuck Bafaro Stadium.

In the opener, Pacific pounded out 16 hits behind a 4 for 4 effort and a home run from Mike Nagamine (Sr., Aiea, Hawaii) to win 9-6.  The nightcap saw Mike McGuire (Sr., Olympia, Wash.) earn his second win of the season with seven innings of four-hit baseball as the Boxers took advantage of six Willamette errors to roll to an 8-3 victory.

The victories gave Pacific (13-9, 10-2 NWC) their second straight league series sweep and their sixth and seventh wins in a row.  Pacific continues to lead the league at the midway point of the season, 1.5 games ahead of second place Pacific Lutheran.  Willamette dropped to 8-18 overall, 5-10 NWC.

Tonight's games were originally scheduled to be played at Willamette's John Lewis Field, but were moved to Forest Grove due to unplayable field conditions.  Pacific played as the visiting team in both contests.  It is the second time the Boxers have had part of all of a conference series moved to Chuck Bafaro Stadium this season and gives Pacific 14 of their first 15 league games on their home field.

GAME 1 – PACIFIC 9, WILLAMETTE 6
Pacific got the offense going early with three runs in the top of the first.  Nick Tasaka (Jr., Hawaii Kai, Hawaii) doubled with one out and Nate Rasmussen (Sr., Sandy, Utah) brought him home with his single through the left side.  Nagamine followed with a single to score Jared Van Hoon (Sr., Lake Oswego, Ore.) and designated hitter Anson Arakaki (Jr., Hilo, Hawaii) capped the frame with a two-out single to third base to score Nagamine.

Willamette took two back in the bottom of the first to snap Chad Fahey's (Sr., Keizer, Ore.) 18-inning scoreless streak, with Tiras Koon tripling to right field to plate Mitch Rowan and Tommy Kawamura.  Nagamine added one for the Boxers in the third with his solo home run to left field, his third of the season.  Van Hoon made it a 5-2 Pacific lead in the top of the fourth when he singled up the middle to score Kevin Schwartz (Sr., Milwaukie, Ore.).

Pacific dodged a bullet in a bottom of the fourth where the Boxers committed three errors, but gave up just one run when Tosh Semlacher plated.  The Bearcats tied it, however, thanks to single runs in the fifth and sixth.  Tyson Giza opened the fifth with a double to deep center field and scored on a ground out.  Adam Reid turned a wild pitch into the tying run in the sixth, reaching on what would have been the third out when Fahey's throw went wild on strike three.  Reid later scored on another wild pitch.

Nagamine made the Boxers winners in the top of the seventh when his two-out single scored Van Hoon to open a three-run frame.  Michael Arakaki (Jr., Mililani, Hawaii) later added a two-run single to left field, which scored Nagamine and Rasmussen.  Willamette added one more run on a Giza single in the eighth while the Boxers tallied one in the ninth on Michael Arakaki's double to center field.

While not putting together his sharpest outing of the year, Fahey was quite effective in his fourth win of the season.  In seven innings, Fahey (4-1) allowed five runs, four earned, on six hits and three walks while striking out 10.

Blake Paisley (0-1) took the loss in relief for the Bearcats, allowing three runs on two hits with a walk and a strikeout in one inning of work, giving up the winning runs in the seventh.  Willamette starter T.J. Whidby allowed five runs on 10 hits and had seven strikeouts in 4.2 innings of work.

Nagamine went 4 for 4 to lead the Boxers at the plate with three runs batted in and three runs.  Michael Arakaki went 2 for 5 with three RBI while Schwartz and Donnie Bradley (Fr., Beaverton, Ore.) also had two hits.  Giza's 4 for 5 performance paced Willamette.

GAME 2 – PACIFIC 8, WILLAMETTE 3
In making his second start of the season, McGuire was nothing short of masterful for the first five innings of the game.  After giving up a hit and a walk in the first inning, McGuire proceeded to retire 13 straight batters and retired the side in order in the second through fifth innings.  The only runs he gave up were on Rowan's two-run homer in the sixth inning as he allowed just four hits and struck out seven in six innings of work to improve to 2-1 on the season.

The Boxers broke a pitcher's duel open in the third.  After Bradley reached on a bunt single, Schwartz was the beneficiary of a wild throw on his sacrifice bunt that allowed Bradley home from first base.  Tasaka followed with a single through the right side that scored Schwartz from second and Fahey backed that up with single up the middle that plated Tasaka.

Willamette all but gift-wrapped the game for the Boxers in the fourth, committing four errors that turned into four runs.  Logan Moen (Jr., Brier, Wash.) reached on an error to open the inning.  Jordan Siu (Jr., Redmond, Wash.) then reached base on a four-pitch walk, but catcher Dylan Summers lost the ball and Moen bolted for third.  The ensuing throw to third was wide of the bag, allowing Moen home and Siu to second.  Siu later scored on a ground out.

Tasaka followed with a single and Fahey appeared to be the third out of the inning with a ground ball to third base.  The throw to first by Galen Duff was high, however, and Tasaka round third as Fahey headed to second.  With the throw to home off-line, Summers fired to third to try to put out Fahey.  The throw went down the left field line, allowing Fahey to score on a two-error play.

Rasmussen added one run for Pacific in the fifth, doubling to open the inning and scoring on a ground out.  Willamette's first two runs came on Rowan's two-run homer in the sixth.  They added one more run in the eighth when Summers singled to center field, scoring Kawamura.

Peter Hoffman (1-4) took the pitching loss for Willamette, allowing eight runs, three earned, on five hits with two walks and four strikeouts in five innings.  Willamette pitchers combined to allow the Boxers just six hits, including two each by Tasaka and Rasmussen.  Kawamura finished 3 for 5 to lead Willamette.

Pacific opens the second half of the NWC schedule at home this weekend, hosting Whitman for a three-game series on Friday and Saturday.  Willamette has the weekend off, but will host Corban in a non-conference game on Wednesday.
