Worcester, Mass.- Rhode Island College senior second baseman Joan Mustafa (Providence, RI) went 3-for-3, including a sixth inning three-run triple, while junior starting pitcher David Hoey (Lincoln, RI) went solid six innings, to help propel the Anchormen to a 22-1 victory over Worcester State in non-conference baseball action on Tuesday at Rockwood Field.
 
The 22 runs scored were the most for the Anchormen (12-8) since March 27, 2007 when they topped Coast Guard, 22-11.
 
After two scoreless frames, the Anchormen were able to hang a crooked number in the top of the third. The visitors loaded up the bases with their first three batters to begin things before Worcester State freshman starting pitcher D.J. Colbert (Somersworth, NH) got two quick pop-outs as he looked to work his way out of the jam. However, a high pop-up in the infield on the next batter was misplayed allowing two runs to score.
 
After back-to-back walks pushed the score to 3-0, senior center fielder Victor Baez (Providence, RI) hit a double into the left center gap to empty the bases, making the score, 6-0, after the third.
 
In the top half of the next inning, Rhode Island College was able to push the score to 8-0 as sophomore designated hitter Alex Verrecchia (Cranston, RI) drove in two runners following a double into left field. RIC soon increased its lead to nine in the fifth inning as Mustafa crossed the plate on a passed ball.
 
The Anchorman kept their foot on the pedal and took a 14-0 lead as they reeled off five more runs in the top half of the sixth, spearheaded by Mustafa's three-run triple.
 
The Lancers (4-16) finally got on the board in the bottom of the sixth as freshman center fielder J.D. Salinas (Fredericksburg, TX) hit a sacrifice fly to left field to plate classmate left fielder Cody Osburn (Fair Oaks, CA).
 
However, WSU could not stop the RIC offense as the Anchormen rattled off eight more runs in the final three innings of play to make it, 22-1, highlighted by a ninth inning two-run double from junior right fielder Kyle Mann (West Warwick, RI).
 
Hoey (2-0) pitched six strong frames for the visitors, allowing three hits and no walks, while fanning five. Rhode Island College's bullpen kept the pace as sophomore Joe Brooks (Pawtucket, RI), freshman Kyle Morvan (Smithfield, RI) and junior Chris Mann (West Warwick, RI) combined for just two hits, one walk, no runs and five strikeouts in three innings of work.
 
Colbert (0-3) was dealt the loss for the Lancers as he allowed six runs (zero earned), while walking four and striking out two in three innings. WSU used six pitchers over the remainder of the contest as the bench yielded 16 runs (11 unearned) and walked eight.
 
Mustafa had one of the best games of his Anchorman career, going 3-for-3 with a triple, three RBI and three runs scored. Senior shortstop Kyle Allaire (Uxbridge, MA) went 2-for-4 with three walks and four runs scored, while Verrecchia finished 2-for-3 with a run scored and a pair of RBI. Junior catcher Franklin Salcedo (Providence, RI) also collected a pair of singles in the win, as 11 different players recorded hits for the Anchormen.
 
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host Brandeis on Thursday, April 5 (3:30 p.m.).
