Trinity Baseball Pounds Albertus Magnus For Eighth Straight Victory

Hartford, Conn. – Senior C Luke Auger (Avon, Conn.) went 3-for-4 with two runs, four RBI, and a three-run homer to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 16-4 victory over the visiting Albertus Magnus College Falcons in baseball action this afternoon. Trinity, playing its first game on campus this spring after hosting MIT in a doubleheader at Central Connecticut on March 10, improves to 15-5 with its eighth consecutive victory. Albertus Magnus falls to 4-11.

Albertus Magnus took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a three-run bomb by senior C Malcolm Mendez (New York, N.Y.), but Trinity got two runs back in the bottom of the inning on RBI singles by senior tri-captain 1B Kevin Mortimer (Spencer, Mass.) and junior 3B Steve Rogers (Watertown, Mass.). Auger gave Trinity the lead in the bottom of the third frame with a two-out blast to left-center off Albertus reliever Matthew Finkenzeller (Wolcott, Conn.), and the Bantams broke the game open with seven runs in the fourth inning.

Mortimer and Rogers each had three hits, while Mortimer added three runs, two RBI, and two doubles, while Rogers registered three runs, two RBI, and a triple. Junior RHP D.J. Goldberg (PlainvilLe, Mass.) improved to 3-0 on the mound for Trinity, allowing three runs, two hits, and three walks with four strikeouts in five innings of work before yielding to three Bantam relievers. Mendez totaled four RBI for Falcons, and Finkenzeller took the loss on the hill.
