FOREST GROVE – Whitman hit with the ability to stop Pacific's nine-game win streak Saturday, but six Missionaries' errors translated to five runs to allow the Boxers to sweep the season series with a 6-5 victory in Northwest Conference baseball action at Chuck Bafaro Stadium.
 
Pacific saw their lead-off hitters reach by way of error in the third, fifth and sixth innings, with the freebie coming around to score each time.  The Boxers secured the win in a two-run seventh which started when Nate Rasmussen (Sr., Sandy, Utah) reached on a two-base error.  Only one of Pacific's runs, scored by Kevin Schwartz (Sr., Milwaukie, Ore.) in the first, was earned.
 
The win was the 10th straight for the Boxers (16-9, 13-2 NWC) and marks their third conference series sweep.  Pacific maintained a two-game lead in the NWC standings over Whitworth, who moved into second place with their three-game sweep of Lewis & Clark.  The Boxers and Pirates will square off for a critical three-game series in Spokane next weekend.
 
The Missionaries (4-26, 4-14 NWC) hit well enough to win, knocking Pacific pitching for 14 hits.  Whitman rattled Pacific starter Chad Fahey (Sr., Keizer, Ore.) for three straight hits up the middle to open the game, with Jonny Chow scoring the first run on a single by Peter Valentine.
 
Pacific took the lead in the home half of the first when Schwartz walked and Donnie Bradley (Fr., Beaverton, Ore.) singled.  Schwartz scored from third when Whitman start Spencer Hobson's attempt to pick Bradley off first went wide of the bag.  Bradley made it to third base and made it a 2-1 lead on Jared Van Hoon's (Sr., Lake Oswego, Ore.) single to center field.
 
Whitman took both runs back in the top of the second.  Jimmy Madden led off with a single and moved to third on MacLean Harned's double to right.  Madden scored on Chris Andrews' ground out and Harned plated on Cam Young's single to left.  The Missionaries had six hits off of Fahey in the first two innings and would finish with 11 hits on the starter before he left in the sixth.
 
Schwartz tied it for the Boxers in the third when he reached on the Missionaries' third error of the day and scored on Van Hoon's double to left center field.  The two teams then traded runs in the fifth.  Kyle Moyes walked with two outs and scored on a single by Chris Konolige.  Jordan Siu (Jr., Redmond, Wash.) reached on an error to lead off the bottom of the fifth and scored when Bradley's bunt was misplayed for the fifth error of the game.
 
Rasmussen led off the Pacific sixth when he reached on the sixth error, which allowed him to go to second base.  Michael Arakaki (Jr., Mililani, Hawaii) laid down a bunt single to move Rasmussen to third, who then scored on a single by Mike Nagamine (Sr., Aiea, Hawaii).  Arakaki later scored on a sacrifice fly.
 
The Missionaries tried to mount a rally in the eighth against reliever Kyle Treadway (Fr., Phoenix, Ore.).  Chow singled with two outs, went to third on Young's single and scored on a Valentine single to left.  Van Hoon came on at that point to pitch, struck out Aaron Cohen and allowed just one hit in the ninth to earn his second save of the year.
 
Treadway (1-2) earned the win in relief for the Boxers, allowing one run on three hits with five strikeouts in 2.1 innings of work.  Hobson (1-4) took the loss for Whitman, allowing six runs, one earned, on six hits with two walks and six strikeouts in six innings of action.
 
Van Hoon led Pacific at the plate, going 2 for 4 with two runs batted in.  Young went 4 for 5 to lead Whitman while Madden finished going 3 for 5.
 
Pacific and Whitworth will square off this weekend for a key three-game series in Spokane, Wash.  The two games will play a doubleheader on Saturday followed by a single game on Sunday.  Whitman will host Willamette for a three-game set.
